Initially I too agreed with you -- I just felt that there was no need for bade papa to have any discussion with jagat -- why unnecessarily create a rift between two people, particularly when you have nothing to do with both of them anymore. I too felt it was in bad taste.
But a little while later, I thought about it, and decided that bade papa did the right thing ... because you see, he was shocked that even after breaking relationship with gauri, she was pretending that everything is still okay with them, and that they are close personal friends and that he will stay with them, and that he has called her to tell her that he has gone to Kolkata . He may have been worried that Gauri will use his name somewhere ... or if Jagat is under the impression that gauri and bade papa are still close ... then at some point of time, Jagat may convey that to Bhairon ... and Bhairon may have a bad impression of bade papa because of this.
When bade papa initially cut off the relationship, he said that their values and moral standards differed and he didnt want to be in touch with gauri. If gauri goes around giving the impression that they are still together, there will be implications for bade papa later on.
So he wanted to be sure that Jagat understood very clearly that there is no relationship between them anymore... so in the future, if Jagat and bhairon should talk about bade papa... then bhairon will not get the wrong impression about bade papa's moral standards... or think that bade papa is playing a double game by acting angry about gauri, but still being in touch with her.
So he spilled the beans to protect his own reputation and to ensure that everyone has clarity that there is nothing between J and G anymore.
