But dixie -- even then, I dont think that it was necessary to apologize -- and if what you say was the reason, that apology should have been tendered to dadisa in private -- not in front of jagya who got even more of an attitude listening to the apology. The entire lesson then became wasted on him I guess.
Personally,I did not like Shiv apologizing for putting Jagya behind bars. The officer had already explained to all why he was in the lock up. Shiv has so far come across as a no-nonsense officer. So why change the stance now, especially when he was not at fault? More so, when no one accused him of putting their son behind bars. Agreed that he knew the family too well, it would not be proper on his part to compromise on his duty. May be,he could have met Dadisa later on and explained the whole thing.,if at all he felt it warranted .Apologizing in front of sensible juniors, puts him in poor light.
But,then, love makes men do strange things!

If shiv was in the right, I dont think he should have apologized to dadisa saying "sorry mujhe pata hota toh mai yeh sab kabhi nahi honey deta" ... because the collector should not refuse to prosecute someone just because he has personal ties with them.
