Can shiv's and jagat's interest be compared?

If jagya was any capable he should have made sure that Anandi succeeded and fought for her rights. But he did not.

She moulded herself according to how Jagya was. A stubborn spoiled brat. He needed a wife who would just love him unconditionally and Anandi moulded herself into that. Even then he was not satisfied.

But the Anandi that you see today, is the ORIGINAL Anandi.

The girl who was always outspoken and fought for hte rights of others. And even during the period of her so called 'illiteracy' she never sat quietly. She always fought for others rights. her basic rights remains!

Now, why has shiv fallen for her?

is it because she can speak english and is educated? NO

cause Ashi can speak english and is very much educated

Rather, he has fallen for the original qualities of Anandi, that make her Anandi.

Sacrifice, thinking about others before herself, fighting for others rights and standing up for justice even if she is alone at the front. He was more impressed that she values Arranged marriage than her spoken english or her BA degree. He is impressed by her social skills , which she always had.

So I disagree. If Shiv were to meet Anandi and she was not a graduate even then he would fall for Anandi because, Anandi is someone who fights and is a high spirited girl. Thats what he wants and that she has got.

I wonder if jagat was right in a way that anandi was not a wife he would be able to carry with him -- she couldnt speak english, couldnt eat with a fork and spoon, wore bright gawdy dresses, was only 10th pass (though this I think could easily have been overcome because anandi would easily have studied) etc. etc.

Though I have been relishing the sight of jagat shocked that his gawar anandi could net a boy like shiv, who is easily more 'city bred' than either jagat or gauri put together ...the fact remains that i feel that shiv too would not have fallen for her ... if she was not who she is today -- a graduate, a sarpanch, articulate, who speaks english etc. Shiv too needs a wife whom he can carry with him -- and his equal in many respects. Though anandi looks the same as she did when she was jagat in terms of dress and facial expressions and appearance, internally she has really made a lot of changes.

Some of them have come about because of her desire to change, others have come about naturally due to the confidence she has now acquired through her sarpanch post, and interaction with lots of people besides the five people in the haveli. She radiates a confidence in speech and body language which she never had at that time.

Consequently, is it right to praise shiv for his interest in anandi while denigrating jagat for his disgust with anandi ... because the two anandis (then and now) are very different.

Who is to say that shiv would have fallen in love with the anandi of five years ago? He too might have not liked anandi at that time (not in terms of an interpersonal relationship... I mean in terms of projecting her as a prospective wife in his own mind).

I am just exploring my own value system here.
