Though daily soaps are termed to be the larger than life affair and are stated to have hardly any similarity with daily life, but in the recent past there have been shows which have challenged this so called thinking and have come up with some reality stuff.

Balika Vadhu on Colors and Pratigya on Star Plus are two shows which changed the scenario of daily soaps completely, while the former highlighted the evil effects of child marriage the latter dealt with woman empowerment and threw light on educating the ladies in the house.

It was because of the unique concept they had that the shows managed to gain high number of TRPs and secured a strong place for them. However, if the experts are to be believed then the desire of ruling the TRP chart has made these shows deviate from their actual path. Gajra Kottary, writer of Balika Vadhu, says life in a rural setup is not easy. "There are no jumps in life. Everything is very gradual and that is what we are trying to show. We have so far shown the pain of her (Anandi's) journey'Anandi has achieved a lot. The fact that she has won her in-laws, who are by her side and support her during the divorce ' is nothing less than an achievement".

As far as Pratigya is concerned, Kottary states that here too the female lead is the one who has been fighting against all odds and is living with her head held high!

Well, the justifications given are apt but let's leave it on the viewers to decide if they too feel the same!
