today's jagya dilemma triggered of a question in me.

would you continue to work in an organization that does illegal stuff (even if you are not directly involved and cant be implicated straight away) ... if you need the money?

Or would you ditch the money and look for another organization ...even if it means a period of joblessness in the middle.

I am from a medical background and I would never indulge in such malpractices whatever be my financial status !!!

There is a reason why Sex Determination has been made illegal and everyone knows the reasons well enough !!

When you take a medical oath...its not only oath but is trust, values, ethics and respect towards the society and from the society !!!!

what if it's financial impropriety? Not medical malpractice ...i.e. human lives are not at stake in this case?

And in this case life is on stake...why do you think most of the people in India (prevalent male dominated society) go for Sex determination ?

In case it wasnt clear...I am asking a personal question... I am not asking about jagya's decision per se 😆.

yes it is cheating... but money is a consideration

and if i quit, then i dont stand a shot at getting a job that is so convenient and good right now. I have medical issues and my health benefits are awesome. I get free treatment for my health issues.

I just need to know that it is okay to quit for my values ... and I dont seem to be able to get there on my own. 😆

if ur totally helpless to get another job , then u might continue. but u must remember , an organisation involved in any illegal activity is a dangerous place to be in anytime.

perhaps it is giving u all the perks to make u stay. perhaps it is all well thoguht out. maybe they dont get employees so easily.

usually firms who give too much money/perks are the ones who either have dangerous work going on or are located in dangerous places.

Ethics come first. My mom used to say that, if you live on tainted money, sooner or later that money will bring misfortune. If somebody is unethical in one front, they can be unethical in many fronts.

I'd draw the line b/w legal and illegal. If some employer/potential employer is doing something illegal, which could end up landing me in jail, I'd bail on that job. I may need the money, but once I have a criminal record w/ me, my chances of getting hired by anyone in future is zilch. This is regardless of whether human lives are at stake or not (and in my line of work, they ain't).

Beyond that, however, if it was just a question of unethical, I'd continue. It might be different if it was 1998 and the market was flooded w/ jobs that I could easily leave one and pick another. But that's not the case, and people do need to support themselves, and their families. So in such a case, I'd continue, while actively looking for something else that I'm less uneasy doing.
