What I found most disturbing was not the daayan track per se -- but the fact that the villagers are flouting anandi's orders and authority.
I mean they had already captured her -- the two men who went to find the others prevented them from beating her -- and basant too has said "stop" -- the daayan is in their captivity already -- so where is the problem.
They could easily have waited for two hours or so until anandi and bhairon came back and anandi as sarpanch should have meted out justice.
They want her to be sarpanch with no administrative experience whatsoever in all other matters -- but in certain other matters -- they use her lack of experience as a justification to rationalize taking matters into their own hands. "Humne duniya dekhi hai" -- so basically they listen to her when it suits them and then ignore and defy her when it doesnt suit them. This is not correct.
I think anandi should now step down if they will continue to over ride her like this. It makes little or no sense to be a decision maker whose decisions are continually over-ridden.
That being said -- I think anandi should have tackled the problem when it first arose -- instead of just breaking the laddoo - eating it herself and giving it to nandu. That was not the solution.
there was no satisfactory resolution to the boy who fell ill with fever either (the one who ate the sweets and was taken to the hospital). It would have been appropriate if that loose end was tied up with lal singh saying -- it is jaundice or typhoid or something that has nothing to do with the daayan or her sweets but some physical scientific factor.
So naturally, when this daayan was left hanging around the village, and the children are falling sick, this matter should have been dealt with effectively -- a search committee should have been formed then and there and the matter brought to a close after finding her and finding her truth.
here the missing boy fanned villagers anger and fury... and by now there is a mob mentality against her.
But really, on no grounds should they have disobeyed anandi. She is the sarpanch and there is a certain protocol.
