sorry to butt in your discussion tanvismile and ankit, but @tanvismile----it's absurd to think the Singh family would have defended Gauri the way they would have defended Sugna because not only do they have any love for Gauri, they actually hate her. Also, in both the cases Gauri shouted at the villagers, Gauri did not wait for dadisa's response at all. The villagers had come to talk to dadisa since she is the eldest in the family and Gauri should have waited to see what dadisa had to say about her. If she had a problem with that, she could have confronted dadisa and dadisa alone, since no one else is expected to defend her except dadisa. In India we still maintain family decorum and respect to elders------imagine a situation like this. If an elderly person comes to complain about you to your father and wants to talk to him only, would you barge between two elders and shout your lungs out? I dnt know about your family, but in my family that will be considered as bad manners and horrible etiquette.
And regarding Gauri's turning jealous and negative. Yes, circumstances led her to become like that. And that is true for any negative person. Nobody is born evil--------even a murderer, a thief, a rapist, a conman, a mafia are all born innocent but circumstances, situations in life, company and various other reasons play their role in turning a man into a bad man. Does that mean we start making excuses for their acts? A human being faces a lot of challenges in life and there are choices to make at every stage. One that makes bad choices is the one that fails to be a good human being. No external factor can be blamed for that. And that's what makes a difference between good characters and bad characters. I understand you tend you excuse everything that Gauri is doing but the fact is she was not caught up with an inescapable situation like Anandi. She had good education, exposure to progressive thinking, economic independence, and a brush with modernity. If in spite of these she behaves the way she is behaving, it's nothing but a flaw in her character and she is rightly being criticized for that.
Either you admit that she is a traumatized person and acting under the influence of trauma----------in that case she is not a normal person and is actually suffering from psychological problems. Else, if you want to defend her as a perfectly normal person then she should be held responsible for the bad choices she is making. You can't claim both.
