Balika Vadhu- a good attempt by the channel Colors
Balika Vadhu is the show presented by channel Colors. The show is being shown at 8 pm from Monday to Thursdays. Set in the rural background of Rajasthan it is a show that is targeted towards the ill effects of early child marriage.
Though the concept of child marriage is no more in urban areas but in some rural areas of Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh and Bihar this custom is still in practice. So picking up such a subject is said to be a good step by the channel and the makers. In this serial not only the issue of child marriage is raised but certain other social problems are also discussed like dowry, preference to have a male child even over the life of the mother etc.

In the serial the real story has not begun yet, the overview of all the characters is being presented till now. It is being shown that Anandi, the main protagonist gets married at an early age of 9 to 12 year old Jagdish. The marriage is protested by Anandi's school teacher, but she can't be successful to stop this marriage. Disheartened by this instance she leaves the village. After marriage Anandi is stopped from going to school. Her parents are satisfied that they have married their daughter in a well established family, but all their happiness went in vain when Jagdish died at a very early age. At this instance the real story will begun as Anandi who was once considered lucky for her in laws home will now be considered ill-fated after her husband's death. She will be tortured by her in laws. What Anandi will do at that moment is the main highlight of the story. May be her that teacher will return in her life to protect her and to make her to have a new start in life.
Balika Vadhu is a fictional tale that is woven around the concept of child marriage. Avinash Mukherjee and Avika Gor are portraying the roles of young Jagdish and Anandi. Before Balika vadhu both children have worked together in Rajkumar Arryan, another show by the same makers where they portrayed the younger phase of the lead stars of the show. Despite this, the show has many other important stars within like Surekha Sikri, Bhairavi Raichura, Sadiya Siqquiqui, Anoop Soni, Surekha Sikri, Samita Bansal etc.
