Hi guys! This is an FF that I thought would be quite nice in lieu of Shaan's deeper feelings being slowly revealed on-screen! It's a little sweet and a little funny so I hope you all enjoy it 😊😊
-----------------
Shaan turned his chair around to face Rajni. "Kya yaar, maine robot banaya tha meri madat karna ke liye...yahan toh ulta hi ho gaya," he grumbled. He made a lion-sized yawn and slouched down in his chair, taking a deep breath with eyes closed and a long-deserved break after spending the entire night trying to fix Rajni's shorted circuits. A small mishap at the kitchen had caused one of her wires to nearly melt off, and Shaan was just glad that noone had been in the kitchen to watch her dramatically shut down. He had just replaced the wiring but she still needed to be charged up before the day started.
A cool breeze floated through the lab, and a strong and familiar fragrance wafted into his nose. Shaan chuckled to himself as he remembered Rajni's antics from the week before...Rajni had followed Shaan to the mall to understand more about human interaction, where she saw a lady being gifted perfume by her boyfriend. "Shaan, log ek doosre ko perfume kyun dete hain?" "Kyun ki they like them to smell a particular way," Shaan absentmindedly replied while trying to fix his watch. Rajni smiled to herself as a light bulb popped in her head. Later that night, Shaan had returned to his room after a long day at the lab when he was hit with an overpowering dose of Gucci Guilty for Men at his doorstep. "Shaan!" Rajni came running over to him. "Rajni! Yeh saab kya hain??" he asked, his eyes watering from the perfume. "Aapne bola thi ki log ek doosre ko perfume dete hain unke pasand ke jaise smell karne ke liye...toh maine aapke perfume use kya hain Shaan!" Rajni beamed back. "Since logically love should be proportionate to smell of perfume, maine puri ki puri bottle aapne aap par daal diya hain Shaan. Aab aapko mujhse tudant pyaar ho jayenge!"
Shaan had spent the entire night and the whole day trying to remove the smell from her outer skin layer in vain, before just letting Rajni roam the entire house smelling excessively like him for the rest of the week. The scent had definitely diffused since then, but he could still get a whiff of his perfume. To be honest, he hadn't really liked the perfume all that much as it was a birthday present anyways, but it wasn't all that bad when Rajni had it on.
But what was this? He could also get a little hint of carrots and paneer...Aaah of course, Shaan had gotten hungry the day before and asked Rajni to make him some gajar ka halwa with paneer. Somehow Rajni had managed to mix it up into a bizarre gajar paneer concoction that had tasted as strange as it sounded. "Shaan, jab dono khana ek hi pet main jayenge, toh alag alag kyun khate hain? Isse aapke time to eat lambe ho jaate hain and efficiency kaam ho jate hain." At that point Shaan was too tired to fight so he sprinkled some sugar on top and gulped it down.
Shaan inched a little closer...fresh earth? Oh haan! Sharmila had explained to Rajni quite passionately that flowers were a representation of undying romance...but Rajni couldn't understand how a flower that could wilt could represent undying romance! According to her logic, she had to remind Shaan of her love every day so she found a strong and unwielding plant that would require minimal caretaking...a cactus! Every morning Rajni would pick up her small cactus pot and attempt to gift it to Shaan as a morning present...and every day Shaan would be spend 20 minutes running away from her cactus pot. Still, Rajni would spend some time every morning monitoring the soil conditions and temperature of her little cactus to determine the optimal location for it to grow. As of late, she had decided that Shaan's side of the bed was the best place for cacti growth and hence Shaan had been relegated to sleep on the couch instead.
"Rajni, this is too much yaar...ab ek cactus ke liye tumne tumhare pati ko couch pe sula diya!"
"Shaan, yeh sirf temporary solution hain...next week main cactus ko lab mein bhej doongi. Waisi bhi, mere jaane ke baad, aap yeh cactus ko dekhke mujhe yaad karle na!"
--------------------------
Shaan, still with his eyes closed, rested his head on Rajni's for a while..."Mere jaane ki baad...". The problem with Matthew had already been resolved, but Shaan could never shake off the feeling that someday, someone might just come and take away his Rajni when they found out about her. Rajni was truly a troublemaker, but she also formed the best parts of his day. Shaan subconsciously brought up a hand to her face..."Perfect moulded skin...smooth like butter"* as he stroked her soft cheeks. He wondered for a moment if he had used those same words before, but the thought didn't bother him for long. The sun had started to rise and Shaan could feel its warmth creeping up on him, as he envisioned the way Rajni looked in the morning...
"Pahado ki peeche jab sunrise hoti hain..." and he thought about how his eyes would open every morning and search for the warm smile blocking the harsh light away from him...he couldn't focus too well without his glasses, but Shaan knew exactly how Rajni would look at him in the morning, her head tilted slightly to the right with her trademark smile, sometimes with coffee in her hand and sometimes with a potted cactus.
A strand of her hair fell over his eyelids as he thought about the other silly things Rajni had done. She had asked him before about dyeing her hair (something about following Shogu didi's latest trends; he didn't really care) but Shaan brushed it off saying that he couldn't afford to damage her synthetic hair which had cost him way too much. In reality, sometimes he would watch entranced at how the dipping sun would cast light that bounced off her hair and made it look almost golden...
His nose bumped against hers and he chuckled lightly remembering their first kiss! Rajni had been so excited about it but Shaan had 50 different thoughts and apprehensions before settling on giving her a peck on the nose. Kiss se yaad aaya...his fingers brushed against her lips which were slightly cold to the touch, but soft as petals of the velvety rose Rajni had gifted him 2 weeks ago for their 3-month anniversary. Shaan had shut her down but she was still charging, so her internal heating system meant that her lips had not become ice-cold. His brows furrowed as he imagined the first few times that they had kissed...he had always told himself that it had all been Rajni's doing and Shaan had no interest in it - but did he really not? To be honest, he had been quite surprised by the first time that her lips didn't feel as weird as he might have imagined them to be...but he did create her as humanlike as possible and so he shouldn't be too shocked. Rajni had attempted to ambush him successfully a third time for their 3-month anniversary, and this time Shaan managed to pull himself apart from her by sheer force...but did her lips taste like strawberries? Or maybe it was a little minty, from the strawberry mint juice she made for him on a hot summer's day...
Strawberry mint juice...golden sunlight...smooth as butter...fresh earth...in his mind, Shaan knew who his Rajni was. He didn't need to open his eyes to know how her head would tilt a little when she was trying to be coy, or how eyes would light up when she was correct about his indecisive emotions. How she tried to pout when he was mad at her, or how her hands would wrap around his neck just nicely and she would stand up on her toes to get closer to his face...maybe he shouldn't have been so quick to pull away from her kiss, he wondered, as his face slowly inched closer to her lips...

"Shaan." A soft voice whispered out into his ear. Shaan's head tilted off to the left a little, searching for the shoulder that could cradle his head to sleep anyday. That melodious voice was always calming music to his ears, especially after having to hear the screeches from the other ladies the rest of the day. That voice was never rushed, it rolled along like the waves of the ocean, like a koyel singing in tune, like the soft hum
That soft voice, that could always put him into a trance, was never irritating but it was always assuring. That soft voice that always woke him up in the morning-
Shaan jerked awake. Rajni was looking back at him, smiling. "Woh- woh- woh kuch nahin tha, woh main...tum so rahi thi...nahin, so nahin...tum charging...main so raha tha...woh main-" Shaan rattled off trying to give an explanation. "Shaan, kya aap mujhe, kiss karna chahte the?" *blink* *blink* *blink* Shaan sighed. "3 months Rajni - abhi bhi wohi baat per aatki huyi ho! Kya yaar...anyways, tum activate kaise ho gayi? I didn't turn you on...hmm ho sakta hain full charge ke baat tum automatically on ho jate ho...but maine woh feature kab dala..." Shaan rambled while Rajni kept looking at him. "Anyways, main ab sone jah rahi hoon. Tum charging off kar ke ghar main jayo. Sab uth jayenge soon." Shaan commanded while he ambled off to get some well-deserved rest on the couch in the lab.
As soon as the soft snores began, Rajni announced "Charging - 90% complete". She looked back at Shaan with a knowing smile, "Shaan, aap bhul gaye hain ki mujhe activate karne ke liye aur bhi tadika hain. Buttons ke aalava, jab aapke heartbeat tezz ho jata hain, tab bhi main activate ho jaati hoon." She watched for a little while as the sun rays got started to hit his eyes and he crinkled his nose in annoyance. Rajni shifted herself to block it out while Shaan's face relaxed and he mumbled out a soft "Thank you Rajniii..." as he turned over and his hand landed on hers. His fingers slowly curled over hers as his troubled snores subsided. "Shaan ne bola tha ki charging off kar ke ghar main jayoon. But abhi tak charging complete nahin huyi hain. Toh main kuch aur waqt ke liye Shaan ke paas beth sakthi hoon.", Rajni reasoned to herself happily, as she rested her head next to his.
