Ghar jamai talks don't make sense, but can we compare Ram's stay at Sood's house vs Akki stay?

Sood's literally treat Ram with so much respect, pamper him, love him ..

How do the snobbish Kapoor's behave with Akki?

They always look down upon him, never leave a chance to take a dig at his status.. Nandini threw gifts at the Sood's during Diwali saying Akki toh nahi afford kar payega..

I mean I don't see a point of attacking Akki's financial position again and again. He didn't lie to Shivi about it. The struggle he is going through right now is the story of every aspiring actor with no connections.

Even now what is the need to spend lakhs to get him clothes?

He is not poverty stricken.. You can get Tarun or someone to fetch his clothes from outside. I liked it when he said jitna aaj ke liye chahiye rakh leta hun , bakki return kar do .

Ram's intentions r good, but his family will in no time use sharp words like pehenlo ye mehenge kapde , kabhi dekha nahi hoga, typical Nandini style of taunting people with sweet words...

Even Mami ji taunts Shivina , but the rest of the family try their best to keep her happy, to not make her feel out of place. They pamper her a lot.

But there is not a single person in the KM other than Ram who doesn't give cold vibes and look down upon Akki.

How will Shivi feel if Meera and Sood sisters indirectly taunt her for being good for nothing papa/bhai ki pari who just dresses up and uploads pics on social media? All Sood women excluding Maitreyi r working and good with household errands as well. Shivi can neither support her husband financially nor run household errands, but they understand the privileged background she is coming from and love her for who she is..

Anyways I think Akki-Shivi honeymoon period is over. Shivi found middle class cute, now the reality is dawning upon her . She would not want to go back now ..

What I would say is it is not being ghar jamai per se but being jamai in the KM household that is bothering Akki a lot, because of the way he is constantly made to feel small, poor, low class etc. Unlike Ram who is oblivious to the subtle taunting & manipulation of Nandini & mami gang, Akki sees thru them clearly. They try to make him feel like we dont want u but we are stuck with u, so now we will rescue u from the gutter & give u s chance to live a good life but wiyh constand reminder of being a freeloader. When Akki knows well it is the exact opposite - he is very happy & content in the loving Sood household and doesnt have any respect for the hollow KM.

Of course, on top of this there is the societal conditioning that it is not self-respecting for a man to be a ghar jamai. While we may argue in principle the truth remains that 90% of Indian girls go to their sasural after marriage even today (including educated liberal folks like most of us), so it is hardly an uncommon view. Ideal thing would be for the couple to set up their own household but that will also be seen as going against the revered joint familly concept.

In fact Ram is unwittingly adding to Akki’s humiliation by getting a fancy mall opened up just for this & buying a whole range of branded clothes for Akki to stay couple of days. Surely Ram at 38 should have developed the sensitivity we all show when giving gifts to people - it is not about showing off our wealth but gifting thoughtfully so that the other person gets what they need without losing their self-respect. How difficult is that?

How will Ram feel if the Soods taunt him for the lacks in his household - his “mother” did not once come to help her DIL with the bandages or lovingly make soup for her. If Sivi had been injured all the Sood ladies incl Akki’s irtitating mum would have been personally ministering to her.

Akki is the victim here. Ram is being an insensitive hypocrite.
