Hello everyone,
After a long break from ITV, I've started following this show on-off, from a reasonable distance to not get too invested and then left to wallow on the same fate most ITV shows get.
This show is like a breath of fresh air amidst the stink of craps. The first and foremost reason being the 'Realistic lead characters'
Priya Sood - For the first time I'm witnessing ITV normalising a flawed female lead character (I might have missed out on some others in the last few years, feel free to suggest). And here the flaws are not simply physical making them apparent on the face like skin color, weight, physical handicap, and all other craps ITV usually focuses on. It's more about the emotional baggage, mental trauma, and scarred heart that makes Priya a relatable character.
Priya as someone who has faced many betrayals is bitter from the outerfront and that's justified. We as humans have different ways of dealing with such situations. You can't expect someone to be sweet always. Life's miseries sometimes snatch away such little mercies. And it's fair she's being careful and guarded with her heart and emotions, not wanting/ready to go through another such mishap in her life. Eventually, sporting a bitter or not so likable out front. That's her defense.
Priya stands out among those utterly sweet Mahanta ki Murat kind of female characters who didn't show even a minute change in their personalities despite facing so much. That's unbelievable to think the least and far from reality.
Ram Kapoor - He's just a simple charming guy who creates his own happiness when the world is giving him nothing. Amidst the complexities of a stepfamily, food and rains are as basic as his needs are to be happy in his life. Initially, I thought he's too simple to be a person in this cruel world. I wanted him to have more layers in his persona, more definition to what he is.
But then, having a simple male lead against a very complicated female lead just fits the bill. This is kind of the opposite of the usual ITV characters definition and that's what I'm attracted to in this show.
I just hope, Ram's only job isn't just to untangle Priya's complicated emotions but he's got his own dimensions as well. But I won't mind even if he's made to do that only (shipper alert). He's just too cute to be drawn to, esp when he's nervous around Priya and blabbers.
Would love to hear your thoughts as well.
