A lot of mothers are overtly sweet and kind, but what detaches her character is that she's overtly pedantic. It is okay for old people to talk in symbolism and life experiences, but it's almost as if the writing around her doesn't involve any mundane concerns. She's not showing fussing over Sandy's internship or Priya's work or finances or anything. If they balance the character with more mundane concerns, it would be a more relatable character.
