I have a real bone to pick with the make-up team and it is the whole reason I quit watching the first season. The character Priya is meant to be a plain Jane and does not care for make-up, but seriously, what is it with the make-up team that they have not bothered to change the character's make-up from the day-to-day to an evening style make-up. Even on the engagement not only did she show up in what looked like "ghar ka kapada" but she also did not look any different when they applied the make-up on her.
While they did have her wear a more dressy outfit at the Sangeet, it would have been important for the characters to note it and bring it up hence the reason they got her an outfit to wear. But seriously, she ges an outfit and she fails to get her make-up and hair done? Will she be wearing her nightdress and look like she rolled out of bed on her wedding day and everyone is going to think, WOW she looks gorgeous when she looks like she does everyday?
Life is full of many Plain Jane's but on the day of a marriage they wear make-up. Make-up is not just about putting lipstick but a whole facial transformation. Now I am not suggesting that we make her look like a Drag Queen but goodness, get out the make-up. It looks entirely unbelievable when Ram was looking at her and pretending to see a transformation.
Plus don't forget the hair.
It is such a pet peeve of mine.
I did note that the make -up team did work on the mother and the other characters but completely overlooked Priya and the younger sister.
Well some or even most Plain Jane's would wear make up on their wedding but Priya need not be one of them. She doesn't even consider this a proper wedding so can you blame her for not being too enthusiastic about it and dressing up for it? I believe everyone should wear whatever makes them feel the best on their wedding day and not what others want them to or what most people do. I mean who are others to judge what is too simple and what is too loud?
And as to differentiation between day and evening make up.. I am positive that Priya herself does not know the difference so for her make up to look the same is fine.
Coming to make up is about a whole facial transformation.. I disagree. Make up is how much people want to do. Some like simple makeup to enhace their features, some like full glam, some like a lot of makeup but with a nude look and so on. There is no correct amount of make up. Even a lipstick and some eyeshadow/eyeliner counts.
But after saying all of this I do want to highlight that the show is too focussed on exaggerating certain traits in characters instead of making them a bit more believable. Examples are Ram's constant eating, overt niceness, Sandy's gossip, Priya being rude and a lot more. In this case however, I feel like it makes sense for someone like Priya, who doesn't believe in marriage and definitely doesn't consider this one a real one, to not wear any make-up even though I would love to see her all dressed up once in the show.
