She is now acting alongside Sunny Deol, Aamir Khan and Anil Kapoor! Sakshi Tanwar has used the popularity after hit shows like Kahaani Ghar Ghar Kii and Bade Acche Lagte Hain. The actor will soon be seen on 24, in which she plays the role of an ATS chief and Anil Kapoor's boss.
You seem to have been busier with films than TV of late.
I worked on a film called Mohalla Assi (2015) with Sunny Deol, which is stuck due to some reason. The film was supposed to be released last year but unfortunately it wasn't. Later, I got the call for Daangal and I started shooting for it with Aamir Khan.
Why have you kept away from TV over the last few years?
I have been working for a long time now, so I thought why not sit back for a while and relax? It's not that I was not getting work, but then it was not something that got me excited to come back. And these films kept me busy. It looks like I took a break but I was working continuously... maybe silently (laughs).
TV soap 24 is a marked departure for you from the social shows you usually do...
When the makers approached me for 24, I liked the subject because this was something I hadn't done in my entire TV career. I have never played a cop before, and this role was a welcome change. I watched the show's first season and loved it; so to be part of this show is overwhelming.
Will you be seen in action scenes in the show?
Not exactly action, but yes, there will be some scenes of us chasing since we are cops.
Do you play Anil Kapoor's boss?
I play an ATS chief who has been given the task of saving the country. Anil works with me and we are assigned to work together and solve the case. This is the first time I am working with him and it was a superb experience. He has brought a change in the TV industry with this show.
What was it like to work with Sunny Deol and Aamir Khan?
Excellent! They have been in the industry for such a long time, they teach you so much. In the beginning, Sunny sir was a little reserved, but once we started shooting, he became very comfortable and open. He is a very simple man, which is what I like about him.
All of us know how Aamir is with his work " very systematic. That man is dedicated to his work; he goes into every detail. He has transformed himself for the film! I couldn't have asked for anything more than to work with Aamir.
How would you compare working on films and for TV?
TV and movies are two very different media. On TV, you keep working every single day for a daily show, whereas you have a proper schedule to follow for films. Television is more hectic than movies but both have their own perks. Television gives you a wider audience and lot of love and recognition; like Kahaani Ghar Ghar Kii made me a household name. Once you win the hearts of people they want to see more of you and hence you continue doing shows. But I wanted a change and something new to do; and that's when the film offers came my way.
