After politicians, it is now Bollywood
celebrities who are trying to build a
connection with the aam aadmi. Several celebs, including superstar
Salman Khan, film-maker Karan
Johar, cricketer Harbhajan Singh and
singer Mika Singh took up routine
jobs like selling tea and giving
haircuts, and helped them earn some extra money. The whole exercise was part of an
upcoming reality show called Mission
Sapne. Salman turned a barber as he
snipped hair to raise money for
physically challenged Qurban Ali, a
poor barber from Delhi. The Jai Ho star visited the humble
salon where a large crowd was
waiting to get a haircut from the
superstar. It took a while for the unit to settle
down the frenzy created by the
onlookers in the local market. Ali couldn't thank Salman enough as
he raised a decent amount of money
by working at the salon. A guy approached him for some
styling tips and Salman sportingly
trimmed his beard. Scheduled to begin in the summers,
the show, first of its kind, will see
prominent celebrities innovatively
raise money for the people. It will be hosted by actress Sonali
Bendre. Johar became a photographer and
raised money by clicking pictures of
tourists. An expert in handling high-end
cameras, Johar realised the difficulty
of a ubiquitous photographer, who
runs around tourists convincing
them to get a picture clicked in the
backdrop of Gateway of India. Harbhajan worked as a salesman as
he hopped on a modest scooter
loaded with biscuits and other
goodies to sell them from house to
house. Mika visited a small tea kiosk
at Tilak Nagar in Delhi to offer help to an elderly tea vendor, who needed
money to educate his grandson. Student of The Year actors Varun
Dhawan and Siddharth Malhotra also
showed their commoner look. Sporting kurta and gamcha, Varun
worked as a dabbawala and carried
lunchboxes to various offices in
Mumbai's Crawford Market. Siddharth worked as a vegetable
vendor in Lokhandwala, where
many of his female fans gathered to
buy veggies. TV actor Ram Kapoor turned taxi
driver as he drove more than a
dozen customers and earned money
in Mumbai.
Ronit Roy worked as a cosmetics
seller in a crowded market in
Lucknow.
