Infosys starts putting the recordings of Bade Achchhe Lagte Hain' on its office LAN
Bangalore. In a first of its kind initiative, the IT giant Infosys has started putting therecordings of popular TV serial Bade Acchhe Lagte Hain, on its Local Area Network. When the company made the official communication about it, a lot of employees got surprised and couldn't understand how to react to this noble idea. It came as a bonus for the serial lovers and they thought this could just be the tip of the iceberg and the company may do it for more serials going forward.
Mocking Now contacted the HR officials in the company to first substantiate the stroy, and then to know the intent behind it. "Yes, it's true that we have started putting the recordings of BALH on our office LAN, so that whenever employees have free cycles, and if they want to watch it, they can do so. There is an internal link that we have shared, all one needs to do is click on that, switch on the audio and enjoy", tells the official on the condition of anonymity.
The trend setting by Infy is described as Bade Achchhe Lagte Hain'
When we probed on the intent or the need of such a move, the official was initially a bit reluctant but on the assurance that his identity will remain confidential he opened up and shared the complete background. He tells that "for the last 3 months or so, we have been observing that a lot of people are coming late to office. Further analysis showed that the majority of them are ladies and married men. We started an anonymous survey and asked the managers to casually talk to all such employees to find out reasons. The idea was to keep the talk informal and not put the employees under any suspicion".
He further adds that "to our utmost surprise, most of them admitted that they watch serials till very late in the night and hence can't get up on time in the morning. On trying to know the name of the serials, we found that 90% of the serial watchers named BALH. As one female employee put it - "BALH is my favorite serial. It goes on till past 11pm. By the time I pack up the stuff and go to sleep, it's already midnight. Now it's impossible for me to get up early and be there in office on time".
The official elaborates that "once we had all the data, we called a meeting of our executives. First we decided that we need all these employees, as they were good in their works. And so we started thinking about what we can do to address the problem. That's when the HR head suggested that let's make the BALH locally available on the LAN, so that people can watch it during the day when they are free. We also decided that we'll just make the announcement about the availability and will not tell the reason or the intent."
Mocking Now asked the official if things have changed after that, and he admits that "Our employees are intelligent, and we knew they will get the intention. It's been a month that we started this, and we already see 60% of those who were late are coming on time. That's a very good improvement. Our IT also checked the traffic on the internal link, and the number of hits is quite big. So that means there is a correlation."
