Mohit: Ram is different off screen

Ex-Splitsvilla contestant turned actor, Mohit Malhotra is loving being back on small screen in Ekta Kapoor's Bade Achche Lagte Hain where he plays Sakshi Tanwar's younger brother. His cute looks and competent acting has helped him stand out in this multi cast serial. As the show is already riding high on the popularity chart, here's a tete-a-tete with him on the show, and working with senior actors Ram Kapoor and Sakshi.

How has the response been for Bade Ache?
The audiences are loving the show as the trps reflect. The idea, narration, acting, everything is working in tandem. The concept of love after marriage is a universal one and perhaps that's why the audiences are connecting with the show. Indians believe in arrange marriages which is why this topic has a mass appeal.

What do you find most endearing about playing the role of Karthik?
I can relate to Karthik as I am positive, optimistic and responsible just like him. His family is his priority as mine is for me. Whatever he does is for his family and I love that quality in him. He is romantic and kind hearted too. I am to land this cool role which is totally different from the ones I did earlier be it Sasural Genda Phool or Mitwa.

What would you say is the best quality of Ram Kapoor and Sakshi?
Working with both my seniors has been a fabulous experience. Ram turns into a different person off screen. He is funny and keeps everyone in splits off camera but once the camera is on, he totally gets into the character. Unlike Ram, Sakshi isn't that outgoing but very sincere in her job. Sakshi is down to earth, sweet and treats me as her younger brother. I have learnt a lot from both of them. It's my pleasure and honour to work with such great actors.

Why is Natasha so mad?
[Laughs] Natasha is like this because she has been spoilt by her family. Every demand she made has been met so she doesn't want to change at all.

What do you like about Balaji shows and Ekta Kapoor?
Balaji always sets a new trend and bring in fresh ideas on to the television screens. Their production value and shows are high class. Ekta maam is a lovely lady and the best boss ever. She is always personally involved from narration to execution. She is very hands-on. I am very honoured to work with her.

You started off with reality show then modeling and acting ' what do you enjoy most?
Acting is what I always wanted to do. Participating in a reality show was a step in this direction. Moreover I had flair for acting and as right projects came my way, I took them up. My brother Himanshoo Malhotra too is an actor so acting is in my blood I guess [smiles].

Are you single?
Yes, I am single and ready to mingle.

What kind of compliments do you get from industry folks and fans?
Everyone I have met be it from the industry or otherwise likes the show and my character. I guess we connected well and the quality of the show is being appreciated. I have a website called mohitmalhotra.com where a fan wrote that she was pregnant and has got my photo with her. She sees it everyday as she wants her baby to look like me. [smiles]
