Mother Middle-Class : Disappointing?

Hey everyone! This is my first post on this forum, although I've followed the show since the day it aired its first episode. Am completely in love with it, which would explain my urge to land here, and well, here I am. 😊

So yes, the mother. I won't mince my words, she really annoys me. I do see where she's coming from, though, and I do also see that they're taking pains to foreground the other side to her desperation. My question has to do more with the characterisation. Or is it the acting? Because I beleve her both ways, the ambitious as well as anxious mother, only I think it's a little overdone. After a point, it begins to feel more like a caricatured stereotype, and a rather unfortunate one, rather than a full-bodied character. Maybe that's the point, who knows. But am I the only one who feels they could have either chosen a better actress, or etched out a finer and more nuanced character?

It won't matter much with time, maybe, once they shift focus to life after the two marriages, but still, Whatsay? 😊

I agree! i think the actress is fine.. but the characterization is poor... they have tried a somewhat confused Mrs. Bennet... but somewhere they themselves are not sure... and with the step-mother doubt coming in... it has become even more cliched!

Hey! 😊 It's so weird, but Mrs. Bennet was my first reference here too! The husband's a Mr. Bennet in some ways as well, if you think about it, lol. Now Mrs. Bennet's annoying in her own way, but it's quite another thing to caricaturise her further with a desi twist. Takes a toll on me as a viewer who might actually be trying to understand why she is the way she is. But hey, what's this stepmother doubt business? I've watched the last couple of episodes in bits and pieces, so is there something this scandalous that I've managed to miss out? 😲

Hi Nandhini. Dunno about the step mom angle. the way it was mentioned in passing raises a lot of questions and doubts. But as an actress Renuka Asrani is doing a good job that is given to her. If at all she really irritates and gets under the skin of us , we only have to blame EK and her co for this.
