Quality Check / Constructive Criticism

Dear Friends,
Last two days I could not write my 'Aaj ki do baatein' as I got busy with couple of things, hence time crunch, anyway I have managed to follow the show, stealing half an hour of my time. In the meanwhile I have been reading several posts, some have agreed with my take on the serial and others are saying give it some more time to develop, don't go into negative criticism.
Every show has a gestation period I guess. I stumbled upon Kasamh Se after 4 months of its start, after KS, I vowed I will not get serial addict as Ekta had left me heart broken. Again last November I got hooked to a serial called Lagi Tujhse Lagaan, I was happy to find it did not belong from BT's stable and hoped it to be different but forgot the bosses who run the channels are one and the same. Thankfully de-addiction of LTL did not hurt me that way KS had hurt.
Now coming to BALH, what is my take after a week of its telecast? Are we being too hyper about the show, are we refusing to give time to the makers to develop the story?
Those who know me from KS days know that I do not mince my words, like to call spade a spade. Frankly, as I was once again disillusioned by another serial and I had thought I would give it a miss till Khushboo showed me the promo and again it was a Ram's show...Ram won over Ekta and pulled me to watch his show😛It is different, he seemed to tell me 😉 I said okay the timing too suits me and once again the lady who revolutionised the Hindi GEC dissappointed me. Friends, mind you I am not trying to spread negativity, who am I to preach you what to see and what not to see, nor I am the marketing department sitting here trying to popularise the show but then as many times in the past I have said in various forums, I pay for the channels which beam into my drawing room and as a consumer I have the right to demand value for my money. I do have the right to caution the makers of the show with constructive criticism what is going down with us and what is not. Why should I accept bloopers as because it is Hindi show and bloopers happen? I never attended a TOEFL class but I know that Keats is something which is not taught there. I am a career woman and I do have some idea how companies are taken over. Many of you may find these to be minor things but why the heck can't we have shows like they have in the west? I am sure they are also not perfect but then bloopers are rare. Quality is something we should demand as consumers.
I am partial to Ram everybody knows, I am watching Sakshi for the first time and must confess she is very natural but the supporting cast? 😡 e.g .Sakshi's father, Ram's mother?? I mean the good effort RK and ST are putting will go in waste as a good supporting cast is needed to enhance the actor's acting. Remember Ashwini, who played Jigyasa in KS...when she came into the scene she filled it with her presence, we hated her from the bottom of our heart but we loved her as Jigyasa. Briefly she was replaced with Jaya Bhattacharya but we demanded her back and when she did, we were happy to hate her once again😃
The storyline - I am waiting for Ram and Priya to meet, yes want to see their chemistry build up but for last one week whatever I have seen I must confess after seeing the promos I expected a different show. I know families get worried when their children do not get married in time. But at this age when your priorities are different you are not expected to talk about marriage like teenagers all the time. Specially Ram, a business tycoon, he is lonely as they say it is lonely at the the top but he is level headed, he will not marry for the heck of it, he has past that age but his friend for last 4 days has only spoken abut marriage, the benefits of it with his wife leaving him by the second. I liked the father and daughter relationship, the talk they have of her being lonely after sometime in life is also very natural but then refusing to speak to the boy who jilted his daughter...I would rather be proud of my daughter then to act as hurt in front of that worthless fellow😡 I loved the moment when Priya told her mother that she too hurts her by her comments, very natural and I would look forward to more such comments. Regarding the bathroom scene, frankly speaking I am in two minds, though I loved how Ram called out 'darling' but then I thought Ram is a person who will not say certain things to his shadow even...yes he would have said I feel jealous when I see Vikram with you, which would have been enough to read is heart...but then all scenes cannot be matched with one's imagination so I am sort of okay with that scene.
Friends, the show has a lot of potential. Ekta has managed to pick one very mature and sensitive subject. Lets do constructive criticism to make the show better. I know the channels and the PHs are not the viewers best friends with the no. of collective appeals/ petitions we did on KS in the past and LTL recently but then we do have the right to voice our opinion. Lets not get bogged down, every viewer has the right to give their opinon, you have the right to disagree too but lets not accuse and abuse. Your thoughts friends, love Tin

Whoa!😆😆😆 But very well written,Jayati! As always👍🏼.
This is the second show I am watching in my entire life after the first which as you know left us all devastated.I have heard about the ample creative liberties taken by the maker of this show so I had already decided to not to get emotionally involved with it like I did with the other. But even there Jayati I'd learned very early in the show not to set much standard as regards to the storyline & creations of scenes. I only concentrated on the male lead, his character, his acting skills, his emotive precisions. That man single handedly carried the burden of an embarassingly mediocre cast with the exception of the second male lead. And he managed to keep us enthralled for 14 months! That is how I was able to overlook all those bloopers you & a few others had been expressing immense disillusion over. That is what I am going to do here too. I am already loving Saakhshi & Ram seems fun too. If they could slay, bag, tag & seal us with only promos I can't imagine what they will do to us with entire scenes. I am already watching the washroom scenes over & over again.👏 I am going to concentrate on this pair and I am sure I will enjoy my time with them.😳

Zuby, I loved Mishal's acting in fact, he is my another favourite and waiting for him to come back with another show. I was not too happy with Mahi's skills but then Akshara was good, Ayi Sahib looked like a mother and believe it or not I loved Ganpath also!! Best was Anna no doubt but Mishal was well supported off an on and yes at a later stage it is Mishal who kept us hooked to the show! He left, I left😛

Jayati nice post, well said. 👏👏

Well, for one, I was quite disappointed with the first 3 episodes but kind of liked the last one, specially the washroom scene. Though clichd was fun and loved watching it. I had my expectations tipped very high 'coz this was a production house that was well into the business for years, goes without saying they would have the best of teams too. However the script, dialogs and even direction was pretty so so, or maybe that's the standard. Have not been too much into TV off late and two of my bestest shows were goofed up thanks to some people at the helm.

Ram and Priya would definitely win hearts so am waiting and watching.

Agree with you, would love the forum to be positive about criticism (constructive).

Word to ZubyDutta – no emotional investment – twice bitten now shy.

Tin I am with you, if people are paying money to have the show broadcast into their home, then they are entitled to quality shows. I don't understand why people want to put up with substandard shows. Why do you want the production houses or channel heads to dictate that well majority of viewers are illiterate and don't care what is dished out to them.

Ekta as a women should be concerned about what she produces...after all she is also the one now garnering critics rave reviews for her movies.

I would rather they hire quality actors in the supporting roles and do away with glitzy clothes and huge sets for lavish parties and weddings. Wouldn't a riveting scene between Ram and his mother stay in your mind a lot longer then a designer sari worn by the mom.

Yes shows in west are of higher quality then that is because if the show is not up to standard the viewers reject it and the show being taken off. Most new shows are presented as pilot shows and if the show is makes the grade then it will go into full production for next season.

The viewers don't need to be subjected to screeching and screaming from women to grab attention. Let me give an example, on Tuesday evening I was watching Criminal Minds, it is an investigative/legal drama. In this particular episode, a mother is kidnapped. The family are from Russia and so the Russian mafia angle is exploited. |The mother is found, and the suspect go on trial. For reasons the family would be sent back to Russia. The couple have a 11 year daughter who is now afraid of losing all her friends and uprooted to go to Russia. So in the court she implicates that mother is lying.

Of the whole episode there is one particular scene...one of the investigative officer realizes the girl has lied because she wants to stay back...parents go to prison she gets to stay back. What I want to point out is that in the scene, the two officer, a female and male are not hot looking actors. They have been cast as per roles they are playing. The quiet and intense way the male officer gets the girl to admit the truth was a wonderfully written and acted scene.

My point is do we just want to see Ram and Sakshi chemistry or we want to see a wholesome product? Because Ram and Sakshi can only carry the story forward for few weeks, then we would all start complaining that all they are showing is repeated mushiness. Have vamps, have villians, have dotty/evil mothers...but write meaningful tracks, cast appropriate and talented actors and the show will attract viewers and run for a long while.

I am also for showing sensitive, loving father, which I gather is what Priya's dad is supposed to be, and because we need to show some men out there that father has to be caring about both a female and male children. But I wish they had cast an actor that did look older.

Tin your post made up for the Aaj ki do baatein...we love you calling a spade a spade.

Achu and Zubby-dutta...the emotional burden gets easier with each disappointed shows. You do end up watching a new show and then walking away when the butchering of characters start or like in case of LTL and KS, the leads leave.

I have already been quite vocal about this show in another thread, so I'll not add more to it. Overall what I've gathered from the first week is that:

We love the concept
We are all impressed by Ram and Sakshi, their acting the subtle nuances they bring make it all worthwhile
We hate the supporting cast
We absolutely detest the silly attempts at TOEFL classes and Business meetings
We are tired of the broken record harping on marriage as the be all and end all
WE WANT THE REAL STORY TO BEGIN.

I'm a bit of an TV Addict, but I refuse to watch shows which have a lot of negativity and conniving families, or which have doormat heroines. I think the real life throws enough ups and downs, in one's way to build sensitive drama around it.

SO far I'm willing to give BLAH a chance, and for BT to pull up its socks and give us the good shows that it is capable of.

I agree with you Tinni. You /we as audience are free to critisize any show regardless it is Ekta's show or Ram's or Sakshi's. We surely do not want to suffer the way we did in KS give us a nice story Ekta even with limited episode and yes we are watching your every move. You will be judged and critized (in way constructive way though😃). So be prepared😉
