Ask her how it all happened and she chirps with the anxiety and enthusiasm of a 16-year-old waiting for her first day of college. This is going to be her first directorial venture and right now she's really looking forward to making it big. It is intended to be a commercial cinema with a great ensemble for the starcast. "I will make a fantastic film which will be a total entertainer, true to my style," she promises. Currently she's still looking out for the right cast for her film. So what's the storyline like? "Its a funny plot which I had read a while ago and was too keen to bring it to life!"
What kind of actors is she looking for? "It's good to have big names involved in the project, but I sincerely believe that for making a quality product all you need is good talent. Then it doesn't matter if the film is big or small; if it's quality cinema, it has to work!"
Vandana started off being a theatre actor and then moved on to directing and producing plays. She then did TV, one hasn't seen her in too many serials in recent times. "Gone are the days when we had quality actors like Irrfaan, Shefali, Harsh Chhaya and the likes. There used to be such great storylines and concepts for the serials. Along with being entertaining, they also had content which would get the audience to sit up and think on certain issues. It used to be more challenging back then," she says. Given a chance, she wouldn't mind going back to TV, only if it is high on the quality factor. "There is absolutely no excuse for bad quality."
On the personal front, Vandana's been glowing since the time she tied the knot recently with actor Rajesh Khattar.
So how did she finally decide on marriage? "Everything in my life has come in a chronology leading to success. If I talk about my career graph which went from theatre to TV and now to films, I think I should also be fair enough to say that my love life had to come to this natural progression." For years she and Rajesh have been together; having their own share of fights and patch-ups, so much so, that marriage doesn't really feel any different to her.
"The only exception to this would be the fact that I cannot give as much time to my husband as I could during our courtship. Besides, everything remains more or less the same and Rajesh is quite supportive in all that I do."
