I'm not familiar with Neelesh Misra's work otherwise but whatever I've seen of him in this show, he has a lovely narrator/storyteller voice...the kind of voice that makes you want to listen to stories in the almost whimsical fashion in which he narrates them.
The short poems that have been shown in the show so far have been really nice too...special mention to the opening sequence with Nikumb's flashbacks about his father/the girl who left him...very well blended in with the poem being narrated...then at another point later on when Nikumb is in despair about losing the room in the haveli and remembers his father again...those "Kuch khat milein hain aaj" lines are really poignant. I also loved the scene where they show a poem developing in Nikumb's mind as he observes various people around him over the course of a day and finally completes the thought/poem as he's leaving Yamini's dressing room.
The title song is nice too...catchy and elevates the scenes...Ditto for the DOP, camerawork/lighting which also seems to be the same as the NBT team.
Abhishek is acting well but I find Yamini a little bland as a character with the way she cowers so much in front of her father...
What I do like is the clash of ideologies being presented...something very RELEVANT in the field of art, even more so in today's times when item numbers and instant gratification have overrun any real aesthetic sense in art, cinema and the likes.
Nikumb is idealistic and cynical while Yamini has lived her life as dictated by her father...it is the narrative that uplifts the proceedings IMO.
I also like how the whole Lucknow culture is being presented...the tehzeeb, the language...very natural and not contrived as many shows end up being even if they are based in such cities.
Very simple show overall and it's narrative style ensures it can never be mainstream...which is probably why it was picked up for LifeOk.
