He describes himself as a 'very sober brat.' That seems like an unlikely combination of words and we ask television actor Amit Verma what exactly does he mean by that? Amit who has made his Bollywood debut with Lucky charm says, "I wear a lot of masks and I am adept at changing them to suit different occasions. At one party I may come across as the biggest extrovert and at another, I might be described as an introvert. Even if I am not in a mood to socialise, I can completely feign a chatterbox image." We can't quite figure out what Amit means by that, but the actor says he has always been very clear about what he wanted to do. He says, "Although my first priority was breaking into Bollywood, I realised that it was not as easy as it seemed. That is why I took up television as it provides tremendous scope for an actor to explore and learn his craft." What does the future hold for him? Amit says, "I would like to see how my first film fares at the box office before I make any concrete plans. I will continue with television until I attain a superstar status like Shahrukh Khan. I am not quitting television till that happens to me. And after I have conquered Bollywood, I may return to television with something like a Kaun Banega Crorepati (KBC)." Amit also harbours dreams to get into production. Currently, he's on a high because he got to work with Shahid Kapoor and Vidya Balan. He says, "They have been very accommodating and I feel that the television fraternity definitely needs to learn from the Bollywood biggies about keeping a good head on their shoulders." Any romance on the horizon? "I am concentrating on my career. Girls will have to wait for a long time. But they should be happy with the fact that I am single," comes a very cheeky reply. But Amit would like us to believe that he's the good guy, the sort of one everyone wants to be friends with. "My friends look upon me as a trustworthy person. I am like an agony uncle for them and believe me I am so good at providing solutions that I can make an alternate career out of it!" We rather see you on the screen, Amit. Being an agony uncle isn't half as interesting as being an actor! |
