Problem is there are a couple different translations of Vyasa's MB itself, which disagree with a few pivotal points, like the ages of the characters and when exactly the events happened.

Oh well, we can go with our gut instinct I guess.

It's not faith to believe the characters lived above 100 years in Dwapara yuga. There is scientific evidence to support that lifespan of people 5000 years ago (when MB happened) was almost 150-200 years. Historians themselves state this, so it's not something based on faith alone. According to science, lifespan decreases with every era due to various elements like pollution, lack of exercise, diff foods, medicine, etc.

Bhishma and all the older characters were definitely 100+ years. People were not considered "old" until they reached 150 at least. After all, with Bhishma's great-grandons (Abhimanyu/Upa Pandavas) being old enough to fight in the war, he couldn't have been young, lol.

Who and why was the heir?

I guess Abhimanyu, based on the citations posted?

Probably because he's the nephew of Krishna himself, so as God's descendant, he was the heir.

This link is based on shremadh Bhagwat where ashwatnma told duryodhan that here is head of ur enemy bhim and when duryodhan crush head and said it can't be bhim head as it is too soft. .

Here in shree madh Bhagwat it state that aswathama has misconception that he killed pandav and bring head of pandav to duryodhan

Where is it quoted?

Secondly not necessarily Kripi and Bheeshm be of similar age group. She could have been very younger sister to Kripacharya and hence Bheeshm considered her his sister

In which we would be talking about faith.

Where faith comes in, I bow out. I respect faith, but it makes discussion impossible.

It's not about faith but about faith but what's mentioned in the book.

As per the book Krishna died at age of 120 and soon after Pandavas started the Swargarohan.

When Krishna was 120, Yudhishtir would have been 122 even if we consider that they left for Swargarohan at that very age, he ruled Hastinapur for 36 years that makes his age during the war as 86 (although they calculate it as 91)

Him being 86 means Bheeshm being nearly a generation older to their grandfather was at least 140+

Of a dark complexion, with white locks hanging down to his ears, that old man of five and eighty years of age, used, for thy sake only, to career on the field of battle with the activity of a youth of sixteen.

Here. Drona's age is mentioned in text. 85.

Also, Kripa and Kripi are explicitly mentioned as twins adopted by Shanthanu. Ie, Shanthanu was still alive when Kripi was born. Ie, Kripi was born latest when Vichitraveerya was a child. Ie, Bheeshma's gen.

No age is explicitly mentioned in MBh except Drona's. Not Krishna's, not Bheeshma's.

If Bheeshma fought like he did in Kurukshetra, there are only 2 possibilities: 1. It was magic/related to divinity ie, faith. Which is entirely acceptable, but it cannot be taken as science. 2. He was not 100+

^^ Exactly, Krishna was 120 years old, and at that time King Ugrasena of the Yadhavas was STILL alive, and he was probably Bhishma's age, so almost 200 years old? Or at least 180. People back then did live long.

After all, we hear of some rare people living up to 100-105 years even now, so it's not unheard of or impossible for people 5,000 years ago to live even longer.

Can you provide citation from MBh for Krishna's age?

You are right there is exaggeration from both sides

People compiling original texts made the ages exponentially high to make it divine while people today make them very young to make it seem contemporary believable

I think Dronacharya would have been the age of Dhritrashtra and Pandu, considering they were all around 85 Pandavas and Kauravs would have been in their sixties and maybe Karna would have been around 75
