Hi..

I watched the episode today..

I had really sympathy for karna for whatever happened to him..but today's episode they shows karna encouraging duryodhana..he ask draupadi to sit on duryodhana's lap..

N then he said the woman who can live with 5 men is veshya..

I dont know wheather it's true or not

There are lots of versions of this story..one I know is karna always wanted to reach lesson Pandava specially Arjun in war only..he was all against this dyut n all..

But only for duryodhana's sake he come to dyut ..n when draupadi was asking everyone else help except him then he said veshya to her..which regret later..

But .. today's episode they show karna fully supporting duryodhan..insulting pandva,n saying such words which leads duryodhan ask dushasan to do vastraharan of draupadi..

When Vikarna came in Draupadi's support, the assembly applauded him. But Karna mocked him by labelling him immature and claimed that he lacks a proper understanding of morality. Then Karna went on to humiliate Draupadi by tagging her unchaste because the latter had multiple husbands.

Moreover, it was Karna who had ordered Dussasana to disrobe Draupadi.

Or, if thou thinkest that bringing her hither attired in a single piece of cloth, is an action of impropriety, listen to certain excellent reasons I will give. O son of the Kuru race, the gods have ordained only one husband for one woman. This Draupadi, however, hath many husbands. Therefore, certain it is that she is an unchaste woman. To bring her, therefore, into this assembly attired though she be in one piece of cloth--even to uncover her is not at all an act that may cause surprise.

O Dussasana, this Vikarna speaking words of (apparent) wisdom is but a boy. Take off the robes of the Pandavas as also the attire of Draupadi.

The Mahabharata

Book 2: Sabha Parva

Kisari Mohan Ganguli, tr.

[1883-1896]

All characters are flawed but most of them possess redeeming qualities. Karna's active participation in the above deed closes all doors of redemption. It was deliberate and remorseless.

In most versions Karna had been the one to suggest Duryodhan for the Vastraharan when Draupadi was standing against the injustice onto her. Yes he was against Dyut but that's because he wanted a chance to show his calibre. He knew Shakuni would win the game and hence the chance of him combating Arjun would decrease, secondly he felt that Dyut can not be the method of winning the war should be.

But that's it he was never against the idea of humiliating Pandavas to the core, in reality he didn't feel any pain for Draupadi. He was the only one to call her Vaishya( and in actual text Vidurji reprimands him for calling her one since her marriage was completely right as per Dharma) and probably that's the reason he might have felt bad about it. He was having the sadistic pleasure as much as his associates were..

Yes Karna had his miseries and he definitely was a superb warrior better than majority there, but he was no where even near to the righteous and super man who he has been shown in the TV shows and novels. His has been given undue importance especially after Rashmirathi

Mrityunjaya by Shivaji Sawant had a greater impact I think. It was originally written in Marathi and later got translated to widen the access.

Yes, as much as it pains me ( because Karna is my favourite) , Karna did take part in the humiliation of the Pandavas and Draupadi. He was the one who instigated for the disrobing and called her "Vaishya" in the court.

However, and this is my personal opinion ( others may disagree), he was not unworthy of redemption.

He did redeem himself at the end.

Those events warrant a separate discussion and we will definitely discuss and debate when we get to them.😊

If we really look at the whole epic from that one incident (Which I do), the only good guys were Krushna, Draupadi, Vidur and one other guy from Kaurava's side.

Karna sl*t shamed Draupadi, he instigated Duryodhana to order her chirharan, when Duryodhana did not, it was Karna himself who ordered Dusashana to do it.

I don't see redeeming qualities in Karna and Yudhishtira, but sadly both get alot of love and appreciation

Acc to KMG, Karna did not add fuel to fire called duryodhan, Duryodhana had nothing to do with disrobing, he asked Dushy to do the deed. Dury is silent after the thigh part similarly Karna did not tell Dury to ask Drau to sit on his lap it was all Dury.

PS- is there a thread to discuss BRCs distortions?

I have read the Hindi translation, didn't find it very great a book, it blamed Duryodhan for every wrong deed that Karna did and made a declaration that Ashwathama was the real friend of Karna while Duryodhan was just using him

Like Ashwathama and Karna were not even that close. Duryodhan considered Ashwathama a friend n vice versa so being the bff of Duryodhan, Karna and Ashwathama had cordial relations something like Mitra k Mitra bhi Mitra hota hai. But he took to another level
