Here is a tut i works in the same way, maybe you have to change the gifs' mode.
1) make sure all your gifs have the same number of frames
2) Arrange the little gifs in a way that they are visible in the shadow of the big one
3) grouping each gif's layers and putting a mask on the folder, start deleting the parts that you don't want.
How to delte: select the mask that is on the folder, select a a soft brush of Back color, set the opacity between 20-30 start deleting the parts that you don't want from each gif (the marging process)
And when you have finished put put on the big gif with the right mode.
