In action...Niki Aneja Walia Niki Aneja Walia, the new face of the
bahu on the small screen, is demure but not retrograde, says, to be confident of your talent and not to make compromises. "As a child I was good at sports and in extra-curricular activities like public speaking. I wanted to be a pilot. As I used to be tall and lean, friends advised me to try out modelling. What started off as a means of pocket money gradually became my profession. As I was aware that I have a decent voice, acting was a natural crossover," sums up Dr. Simran of "Astitva Ek Prem Kahani", a product of St. Jesus Convent and Mithibai College, Mumbai. "We used to call it a sweet girl's college. When the acting bug bit me, my parents were apprehensive in the beginning but when they saw my work they relented," smiles Niki, whose father owns a film studio in Mumbai. Niki loves
rajma chawal and has a weakness for
rabri. "I also love chocolates and
chaina murki." Niki says she has taken help from a gynaecologist friend to understand the psyche of the character. "Half the training was over when I did the role of a naval doctor in
'Sea Hawks' but here we have deliberately given a non accessorised look to Dr. Simran to make it look realistic and it was well received."
Recalling the experience when her debut film, "Mr. Azad" flopped, Niki says that those who don't have a godfather in this industry have to work extra hard to prove their credentials. "Hard work has paid. I am very happy that at last I have been judged the best actress," remarks Niki in a reference to the ITA award for the best actress that she has won recently.
