[NEWS] Descendants of the Sun wins grand prize from broadcasting watchdog

The smash-hit television series "Descendants of the Sun" received the top honor at the 2017 Korea Communications Commission Broadcasting Awards on Monday.

The series garnered high scores for its quality screenplay and depiction of the core humanitarian values of peace and dedication while being hugely popular at home and abroad as a successful pre-produced drama series, according to the Korea Communications Commission, the nation's broadcasting watchdog body.

Broadcast simultaneously on South Korean terrestrial television network KBS 2TV and Chinese broadcasting and video sharing platform iQiyi in 2016, the Wednesday-Thursday series tells the love story of doctor Kang Mo-yeon (Song Hye-kyo) and Army Capt.
Yoo Si-jin (Song Joong-ki) in the fictional war-torn country of Uruk.

It became a sensation in both countries, concluding with a viewership of 38.8 percent in South Korea, which is rare for a weeknight show, narrowly missing the highly anticipated 40-percent milestone.

The second prize went to KNN's radio series, "Barrier-free Opera" while 12 titles, including tvN's two hit series "Guardian:
The Lonely and Great God" and "Signal" and EBS's documentary "Green Animal," won third.

Scene 1: The newest member of team Alpha makes a boo boo and the Americans start to insult them, not knowing that their Captain takes insult very seriously 😆, he shows the american Team Leader his place and how they too are the best of their country. This scene once again proves that for Cap. Yoo Shi-Jin, the honour of his country and comrades trumps all else 👏👏

Scene 2: Dr. Kang Mo-Yeon gets a reality check when someone's connection and higher birth trumps Mo-Yeon's hard work and qualifications. This scene is very real, it happens to the best of us where all our hard work goes in vain when someone uses their connections. Its both funny and sad to watch KMY and that Dr Kim pull each others hair and curse each other. Poor Mo-Yeon, the scene that follows of her crying all alone was sad 😭

Scene 3: The Epic Break Up!! I've never seen a more mature break up and a guy who takes it that well. This scene was so beautiful in a truly heartbreaking way 😭, both of them put forth their ideals and why they do what they do, KMY leaves him and he understands and respects her decision. I feel awestruck at the way YSJ looked at her in this entire scene, you could see the sadness in both their eyes. But I guess it was important for them to part, coz at that moment their professions were more important than their infatuation and attraction.
