Hello everyone,
This is DonnaHarvey (old account). I am no longer using that account just so you know it's still me. Just a different name😉
The shows I have watched/am watching:
Today I take a day off work (Japan): hands down the best show of the year. There is nothing I don't like about this show. This drama may single handedly revive the industry of rom coms in Japan. It is sooo good. Watch it now!
Doctor X 3 (Japan): I find myself craving romance (not going happen, I know that much). But, this season is continuing the glory of the last two seasons. Just as unethical and impossible scenarios dramatized to the T. Keep the popcorn handy.
Plus Nine Boys (Korea): Marathoned this one. Could not get through the sappiness when it was airing but the marathon made for a great weekend watch.
Spinsters vs. Casanovas (Thailand): I started watching this lakorn for the shits and giggles. It looked like a disaster from the title itself. I was wrong. There is this one hero in particular (its an ensemble cast) is so cute with his dimples and Gandhi glasses and another heroine so oblivious & yet so proud of being an airhead, it's hilarious. This show is comedy gold! Of course, since it is a lakorn be mindful of the bitch slaps. They are always in bad taste. But if you can look beyond that, this show is for you.
Carried with love (Thai): The concept was unique. The heroine was cute. What's not to like? Maybe the last two episodes that dragged and did nothing to contribute to the story. Other than that, all good. I am into ensemble casts and side stories these days. The supporting actors are having a moment.😆
Misaeng (Korea): Prepare your fragile heart hours in advance because you are going to need to nurse it for hours after watching this story. It is so real, so relatable and each minute of it is so heartbreaking. I find myself, my friends, my family, my lover, everyone dear to me now or ever, reflected in these characters. And there are times when I find myself thinking "what I sad life I live". And at other times, there is a shimmer of hope that picks me up from the hollows of my sorrow and it's just blue, blue, blue. A must watch!
Yoo Na's Street (Korea): Awesome slice of life drama. It is meant for a slow paced watch like a stew on a slow cooker and yet the more it simmers, the better the taste gets. You end up loving even the worst of the character lot. Except the prosecutor younger sister, she is irredeemable.
Birth of a Beauty (Korea): This is my official guilty pleasure. Holy freaking Moly!! This is how you make a MASALA drama. I went in expecting to hate it but I can't turn my eyes away. The story is just so wrong and yet it feels so right.
Modern Farmer (Korea): Not a must watch but Lee Honey is my girl! Plus, if you are into slapstick you may enjoy it. Keep it in the marathon folder if you have a lot to watch.
Hi School Love On (Korea): Not at all invested in the main characters. I am more concerned about the side love plots. The supporting actors' worries seem more sincere than the leads'. Plus Kim Se Ron can act circles around the two idols who are barely getting their feet wet in the art. Boring unless you like the idols/ want to marathon. In that case, it becomes fun.
Sound of the Desert (China): My man Eddie Peng is so hot and his chemistry with Shi Shi is impeccable. I like this drama mainly because it is so close to the source material (novel of a similar name). I dislike the Chinese censors and how the production had to change the main characters names to play on the airwaves. Other than that, it is a must watch for the fans of the novel. Not so much for people who are new to the story. Meh.
Pride and Prejudice (Korea): Okay. Nothing special.
My Spring Days & My Lovable Girl (Korea): The ajhushi- younger woman love stories didn't really do much for me. I wasn't interested in the actors. The story was shit judging from the synopsis. I didn't even bother watching.
Legendary Witch (Korea): This makes for a great weekend watch. Very hearwarming but with a vestigial tail of makjang still attached. If you can look past that, this is the show for you to devour on a last hour.
What's with this family (Korea): I what it for Kang Shim and her Director boyfriend/non-boyfriend. Other characters are either arseholes, utterly ulikeable idiots, or somewhere in between. Do not recommend but I won't hold you back if you really want to watch. So so.
Rosy Lovers (Korea): I was interested in the story not so much in the actors. The woman lead is either shit at acting or just didn't grasp her previous supporting roles but I gave it a try. Dropped it like a hot potato after the premiere episode. DO NOT WATCH. I repeat, do not go near this train wreck.
Love Cheque Charge (Taiwan): Again, time pass. Watch it if you have time.
Fabulous 30 (Taiwan): It's 3/4 subbed on viki. I finished all the subbed episodes. It is SO GOOD. If you got time to waste, this the daily drama for you.
In Between (Taiwan): great marathon watch. no angst. a straight up love story with some shitty second woman lead moments. I say give it a try.
The Way We Were (Taiwan): I LOVE Ruby Lin. I have loved this woman and everything she does for more than a year now. This show was no exception. The main man Wei Ren was my honey.
great watch. a must watch! sidenote: the second male lead was infuriating. I am going to hate in all the dramas he does now. he was just so annoying i wanted to rip his scalp out along with his hair and watch him die a slow and painful death. he was that stupid and cringe worthy.
*spoiler* the ending was as I expected. bad. but that does not take away from the story.
Looking forward to: Pinocchio (Korea) I love both the actors, Boysitter (Taiwan) Again, adore both the leads but especially River Huang. He plays the kind of bad boy who makes me all hot and bothered (you know the type who isn't really bad but just enough of an airhead to make him attractive).
