Patil: sir ab kya? Riya ko dhundhne mein toh time jaayega, yaha log bhi lagenge. Aur udhar Nandu haath se nikal gaya toh khooni bhi nikal jaayega aur uske peeche gaye toh kahi Riya ki laash na mile. Aur itni force toh hai hi nahi Madh mein ki dono kaam ek saath ho sake.

Frustrated, Arjun raised his fist to punch. Horrified, Patil flinched but he punched the tree next to him instead, screaming out his frustration.

Arjun: RIIYYYAAAA!!!

His voice echoed through the quiet forest...............................

His head and heart fought. Each providing arguments and counter-arguments for both the options. He clutched the ring in his hand tightly, clenching his eyes shut, trying to drown unnecessary voices and come to a decision.

A few seconds later, he took a deep breath. He held the ring tightly mv “I’m sorry Riya, please thodi der apna khayal rakh lena.”

He finally opened his eyes: Hum Nandu ke peeche jaayenge. Tawde, tu yaha ruk, uske gharwaalon ko bol ki ghar se Riya ka koi kapda lekar aaye. K9 squad ko bulao. Jab tak humari raid puri hogi, tab tak woh aa bhi jaayenge aur tezi se search bhi kar paayenge.

Chorus: yes sir!

With sirens blazing like their guns, the police raided the hideout at the dock. Arjun was seething in fury. He easily streamlined the rest of the force inside. Gunshots rang all around. No bullet of his missed its mark.

Turning around the corner, he saw Nandu trying to run away. Arjun aimed at his leg and shot him. Screaming, he fell to the ground, clutching his leg. Nandu looked behind. Before he could raise his hand to bite the cyanide pill, Arjun shot both his hands.

He grabbed him by the neck and showed him a photo: isne tumhe Riya ko maarne ke liye kaha tha? BOL!!!

He nodded, writhing in pain from the three bullet wounds. Arjun threw him back down.

Patil came running to find him: sir!!! 30 kilo maal hai

Arjun: ek havaldaar laga aur Kalighat ke liye niklo. Forensics ko bulao!

Patil: ji sir

Arjun’s phone rang: ha Naik?

Naik: sir records mil gaye, main aapke phone par copy bhejta hun

Arjun: good job

Naik: thank you sir

Call disconnect.

The raid had finished off in barely an hour. Hopping back into their jeeps, the officers sped towards Kalighat. The dog squad had arrived and Riya’s clothes had already been given. The search around the foothill had started.

Ignoring the cacophony of Riya’s family on the road, he went into the jungle. The squad in-charge, Kailash Mhatre came up to Arjun.

Kailash: sir, yaha toh kuch lag nahi raha hai, kutte upar ki taraf le jaa rahe hai

Arjun: theek hai, give me one

Kailash whistled. A white labrador came sprinting.

Kailash: sir Tiger humare squad ka best sniffer hai.

Arjun bent on his knee, extending his hand for Tiger to sniff. He patted his head once he was done.

Arjun: sit

He obeyed.

Arjun: speak

He barked.

Once they were sure they were comfortable with each other, Kailash handed the leash to Arjun. Patil handed Arjun a scarf in case he needed to smell again and a walkie-talkie.

Arjun: Search!

Tiger barked and started sniffing for the scent he had been primed with. Tiger moved fast, covering higher ground faster than the others, despite moving in all directions to catch hold of the scent. Arjun led Tiger uphill, sparing the creature some work. He was sure, nothing was going to be around civilization.

And he was right.

Up, hidden in the wilderness, in a cold room, Riya’s eyelids fluttered. She still felt a little dizzy. After a few attempts, she was able to open her eyes. The room was bathed in an eerie red light. She tried to move but something weighed her hands down. She shifted to sit up and the blurred picture of the room slowly cleared revealing a bed in the centre of the room. She looked at herself. She gasped seeing her hands bound in chains. Her wrists were locked in cuffs. Her head whipped around. A few steps away she saw two more girls. Both of them were bound just like her. Her throat ran dry seeing them wearing nothing but thigh low satin slips. They were drugged, dazed… abused? All of the above.

She heard a rumble. She crouched to the wall immediately. Her eyes widened in shock at the arrival as the ground beneath her swept away.

He smiled smugly at her: jaag gayi?

Her voice shook: Ashu… Ashutosh?

Ashutosh sat in front of her: kaisi ho Riya?

Riya: tum… tumne mujhe kyun… please, jaane do mujhe

Ashutosh: are itne saalon baad mil rahi ho, baatein toh karo mere saath. (frowning) jaane ki baat mat karo (he shifted uncomfortably closer to her) tumne mujhe thoda bhi miss nahi kiya? Maine toh bahot kiya aakhir…

His hand trailed, caressing her chest. Riya whimpered, feeling disgusted. She clenched her eyes shut, wishing to magically go through the wall.

Ashutosh: tum meri aadhi gharwaale ho… haina?

He leaned forward to kiss her. Horrified, she slapped him. He started laughing, terrifying her further. He pulled her close, she tried to push him, hitting his chest.

Riya cried: chodo mujhe please!! Mujhe jaane do… main kisi ko kuch nahi bataungi, please mujhe jaane do!!

His hands roamed all over her, groping her. She shrieked sensing the unholy touches on her skin despite being fully clothed. He tried to kiss her again but she turned her head, whimpering. His lips landed on her neck instead.

A whimper escaped her lips: Arjun!!!

Ashutosh paused: Arjun? Ye naam toh suna hua hai… are haa. Jab main tumhe yaha lekar aa raha tha tab woh tumhe phone kar raha tha

She felt hope rising inside her: Arjun ka phone?

Ashutosh smirked: ha but don’t worry. Woh tum tak nahi pahunch paayega. (her chest sank again) mujhe nahi pata tha tumhare paas ab boyfriend bhi hai. pch, (caressing her arm) Roshni hoti toh jaan kar kitni khush hoti, bichari khamakha maari gayi

Riya: maari gayi… didi… didi ko tumne maara?

Ashutosh sighed: maarna pada, kya karta? Use pata chal gaya ki main school ke bachon ko drugs deta tha. break up toh kiya hi saath mein police complaint karnewaali thi… waste ho gayi bichari. I used to have fun with her

Contempt and loathe crept across the veins in her body.

He shook his head and pointed to the other girls: ab in dono se kaam chalana pad raha hai, your sister was way better

Gritting her teeth, she looked the other way making him chuckle.

Ashutosh: by the way, main tumhe welcome karna toh bhul hi gaya. Welcome Riya! Welcome to your new life. Woh kya haina, is Cheryl se main bore ho gaya hun. Neha is still good toh ab tum Cheryl ki jagah logi

The ground swept from beneath Riya. The world swung in circles around her.

Riya(meekly): nahi… please… please mujhe jaane do

Ashutosh: oho, kaha na maine ye tumhari nayi life hai (stroking her chest again) ab tum yahi rahogi, mere paas.

She cried helplessly: Nahiiiiiiiiii!!!!!

He laughed a wicked laugh that resonated throughout the room.

Ashutosh kissed her neck, making her flinch: patience sweetheart. (she curled in on herself) abhi mujhe Cheryl ko farewell dena padega. Usne itne waqt mera kaam kiya (trailing his finger along her cheek) Uske baad tum apna kaam shuru karogi

She breathed heavily as he finally let go of her. He whistled leisurely, obtaining something from a drawer in the cabinet on the adjacent wall. Riya froze seeing an injection.

He bent in front of Cheryl and took her arm. She laughed dryly and winced when the syringe pierced her skin. Ashutosh kissed her. Riya yelped, turning the way, clenching her eyes shut despite facing the wall. She heard him drag her to the bed. She closed her ears unable to hear the sounds.

She murmured silently: Arjun kaha ho tum? Jaldi aao, please!! Bachao mujhe… please!!!

In the wilderness, Arjun was panting. They had been searching for an hour now. Climbing the hill. Tiger sniffing. Running a different direction and sniffing again. Running in another direction to catch a scent.

Arjun paused to catch his breath. Sweat dripped from his body. He gripped Riya’s ring in his hand mv “hang on Riya, main aa raha hun.”

Tiger barked suddenly. He tugged at this leash wildly. With hope rising in his body, Arjun unpinned the leash from his shoulder. Tiger ran up and towards west, barking loudly. Arjun ran behind him with renewed vigour. He paused every few metres to make sure the officer was following him before running again.

The sounds ceased. It took Riya several seconds to pluck up the courage and loosen the grip on her ears. The room remained silent. Breathing heavily, She uncovered half her ears. She heard Cheryl’s chains dragging across the floor as he pushed her down on the floor again.

The dreaded realisation of him coming for her next stabbed her heart. It sank faster than a thousand pound anchor sinking to the ocean floor. She heard footsteps. Riya did not dare turn. She heard a click and looked from the periphery of her vision. He clicked a button on the wall panel dispensing her chains to be able to extend them.

Riya screamed when he touched her shoulder. He tried to forcefully make her stand up. Riya used all of her strength to stay on the ground.

Riya: NAAAAHHHHHIIIIIIIIIIII!!!!!

Ashutosh: Riya, kyun itna chilla rahi ho? Koi tumhe nahi sunnewaala

Holding her chain, he dragged her. She shrieked, begging for mercy, applying all the force she could. Which was more than what either of them had anticipated.

Outside, Arjun wondered where the hell was the mad dog leading him to? He soon found his answer. Climbing up the steep slope, he ended up at a clearing. Tiger barked happily, wagging his tail.

Arjun smiled, gesturing to be silent. Tiger obeyed. He patted his head. Unfortunately, he did not have a treat for the chap. Not that he needed one during duty. He scanned the surroundings. A small cottage was built in the middle of the jungle. It had a 6 feet tall boundary wall. From what Arjun could see, there was only one gate in the front. He took his walkie talkie and spoke.

Arjun: coordinates bhej raha hun, location found.

An affirmative answer rumbled across. Arjun quickly messaged his location and then pulled out his gun. Loading it, he extended his hands straight up, cautiously, going up to the gate. There were no CCTV cameras or guards. He tried to push open the gate silently but it creaked. Tiger followed him.

Arjun: stay here, sit

He obeyed.

Arjun strode quickly towards the door. Putting his back against the door, he tried to hear any sounds coming from inside. There were none.

Why would he? The screams were not in the room behind the main door.

Taking a deep breath, he thrust the door open with his shoulder.

Ashutosh dragged Riya by her chains and threw her on the bed. He got over her.

Riya: NAAAHHIIIIII ARRRJJJUUUNNNNNN!!!!!

Arjun heard the shout clearly now that he was inside. His eyes widened in shock. There was no doubt it was Riya’s voice. He ran like a madman to the source of the sound not caring about any extra men that may be there. He kicked the door open.

Ashutosh and Riya were startled.

Arjun’s eyes turned bloodshot.

Tears dripped from the corner of her eyes: Arjunnn!!!!

Alarmed, Ashutosh reacted quickly using Riya as a shield. She yelped at the sudden pull.

Arjun: Ashutosh!!!

Ashutosh: sochna bhi mat

In a swift motion, he entangled the chain around Riya’s neck.

Arjun: Ashutosh! Riya ko jaane do. Tumhare bachne ke koi tareeka nahi hai. Humne tumhe chaaron taraf se gher liya hai

The man laughed: gher liya hai? toh fir tum akele kyun ho? Wah Riya! Mujhe nahi pata tha tera boyfriend policewaala hai

Riya: Arjun bachao!

He hardened but reassured her through his eyes.

Arjun: Ashutosh, let her go!

Ashutosh: gun neeche fek… maine kaha gun neeche feko warna

He pulled on the chains, Riya choked.

Arjun: NAHI! Main… main fekta hun

He slowly bent to place his gun on the floor.

Ashutosh: dur fek

Arjun cursed mentally and kicked the gun away. Ashutosh started moving a little behind. One hand flailed towards the wall, clicking a button and dislodging the chains from there. The cuffs from around her wrist unlocked too. However, he was still holding them around her neck. He started moving towards the door, ordering Arjun to step away and stay at a distance.

Riya: Arjun

His gaze met hers, gesturing to stay calm. That he would not let anything happen to her.

Ashutosh: tumhe sunayi nahi de raha? Peeche hato!

Arjun took a step behind. His hand went behind his back where his torch was tucked into his belt. He gripped it and waited till Ashutosh and Riya were near the door.

Ashutosh: peeche raho! Warna main ise upar pahuncha dunga…………………..
