Firming her resolve she entered the ETF office and went straight to his cabin. She took a deep breath and glanced at her phone once. She knocked on the door.
Arjun: come in
Riya entered and marched forward: Arjun sir!
Arjun was surprised to see her there early in the morning in….. anger?
She held up her phone: kya hai ye sab?
Arjun raised an eyebrow: tumhara phone?
Riya: shut up
Arjun gave her an amused look. She toned down a little thinking about her words and then got back on track.
Riya(sternly): aap mujhe aise messages kyun bhej rahe hai?
Arjun stood up from his chair and walked around the table to her side
Arjun: aise messages matlab?
Riya: matlab….(trying to contain her flush) dekhiye aap…
Arjun: dikhao
Saying so, he casually took her phone from her, surprising her.
Arjun leaned on the table behind: acha ye waale
Riya controlled herself and grabbed her phone back: ha ye waale…kyun bhej rahe hai aap mujhe ye sab? Aur…aur us din aapne mujhe ki…(averting her gaze) mera matlab…
No matter how stern she was trying to be, she was fumbling badly and Arjun was enjoying her state.
Arjun: are matlab kya? Kiss ka matlab ek hi hota
Dumbfounded, she stared at him with wide eyes. Before she could react, he took her hand, pulling her to him and caged her in his hold. Then what? All her resolve vanished.
Riya: sir…aap….aap…
Arjun: oho Riya, seedhe-seedhe bolo na, kabse ek hi jagah par gadi atki hai tumhari
She tried to get herself free but his grip was strong enough to hold her in place: woh…main…
He lifted her chin. They gazed into each other’s eyes.
Arjun: kya haina? Koi jab tumhare liye itni mehnat kare toh tareef karna toh banta hai. Aur rahi baat kiss ki toh (leaning further) mere hissab se woh ek hi wajah se ki jaati hai
Riya’s heartbeat and gone off the charts now. Besides the fact that she was red, there were only signs of shock all over her face
Arjun: I thought tum itni research karti ho toh tumhe pata hogi
Just then, the door opened and Rathore entered. Riya and Rathore’s eyes popped open. She immediately tried to get away from Arjun but he continued to hold her possessively.
Arjun(casually): Rathore mana ki tum chief ho lekin iska ye matlab bhi nahi ki tum kisi ki privacy ki respect na karo
Rathore came out of his trance. Riya nervously tried to free herself, half glaring at Arjun and half embarrassed to face Rathore.
Rathore squinted at him: agar privacy ka itna hi shauk hai toh darwaaza lock kar liya karo, samjhe ya samjhau?
Arjun smirked and let go of her much to Riya’s relief. She fidgeted with her hands. She was too mortified to even look him in the eye. Before any of them could say a word she ran out of the cabin.
Rathore spared her aside glance before turning back to Arjun: ye ETF office hai, tumhara ghar nahi
Arjun rolled his eyes:ye lecture dene ke liye subah-subah aaye ho? Mujhe laga kuch kaam tha
Rathore: hai, sab tumhari tarah free nahi hote… informer ka phone aaya tha, parso ek drug deal honewaali hai, ready rehna
He turned to leave. Arjun turned to go back to his chair. Rathore stopped at the door and faced him.
Rathore: Rawte
Arjun(taking his seat): ji sir?
Rathore glared at him: tang mat karo use!
Arjun: kise?
Rathore: tum ache se jaante ho kise
He raised an eyebrow: tumhe badi fikar hai uski?
Rathore: ha! meri favourite hai, agar tumne kuch bi kiya toh dekh lena, itni haddiyan todunga tumhari ki tum gin bhi nahi paoge
Arjun leaned back, putting his legs on the table and hands on his head: rehne do favourite, mujhe kya……lekin
He squinted: lekin kya
Arjun: meethi toh sirf meri hi hai
Rathore glared at him despite not quite catching the meaning behind his words. He gave him a stern look. Arjun winked in response. He rolled his eyes and left. Arjun smiled to himself, thinking about his next move.
The arrival of a new case was a complete nightmare for Riya. Now, she didn’t just have Arjun to hide from but Rathore too.
Riya mv “hey bhagwan, ye kya ho gaya? kyun gayi main sir ke paas? Pata nahi Rathore sir kya soch rahehonge? Upar se Arjun sir chod bhi nahi rahe the, kaun karta hai aisa?”
Rathore called her for the third time: Riya!
Startled, she came out of her thoughts and realised everyone was staring at her
Riya: ji…ji sir?
Rathore: statements lekar cabin mein aao
She could barely nod. Rathore left the room. Riya gathered the written statements and put them in a file.
Shree kya hua Riya? kaha kho gayi
Riya: kuch nahi woh bas distract ho gayi thi
She subtly glanced at Arjun as she pinned the papers. However, he was busy staring at the evidence board. She looked away and stood up. Riya walked to the door and opened it when she heard the sound of a wrapper.
Her head jerked to look in Arjun’s direction. He clenched the wrapper in one hand and popped the chocolate into his mouth without even glancing at her, already knowing that she was paying attention to him.
Riya felt like she was going to faint and ran off to Sameer’s cabin. She knocked and entered. Her gaze lowered the second she set foot inside, the morning memory still fresh in her mind. She silently kept the file on his table.
Rathore opened it and looked up: acha Riya…
Riya turned defensive: sir main kuch nahi kiya sir, sach…..please believe me…woh toh Arjun sir hi…main sach keh rahi hu, mujhe toh kuch pata bhi nahi, main…
Rathore: ho gaya?
Riya(taken aback): ji?
Rathore: ho gaya tumhara bolna?
Riya: huh? Woh…..uh…main…
Rathore: toh suno! Mujhe Ashok par shak hai, Shree se kaho ki uske call records nikale aur tum aur Chotu jaa kar us par nazar rakho
Riya : ji….ji sir
Rathore gestured her to go which she gladly did. The second she left, Rathore burst into laughter recalling her red face
He chuckled to himself: sach mein bahot garmi hai aaj kal
He shook his head and buried himself in the file.
Riya was just waiting for the day to get over. Thankfully, Arjun had decided not to pull some other stunt else she was sure her soul would have left her body.
Later That Night-
Riya had finished dinner a while back and was now enjoying a movie forgetting about the day’s happenings. Just then the doorbell rang. She looked at her watch. It was 10 pm.Confused, she went to open the door.
The porch was empty. She looked around but there was nobody. Thinking it must be some kid in the colony playing a prank, she was about to go back inside when she saw a small teddy bear on the floor. She went on her knees and picked it up
Riya: kitna cute hai!! par ye…(her eyes fell on a tag dangling from its neck) kiska hai ye?
She turned the tag to read

Riya hid her face in the teddy’s tummy: Arjun sir!!!!
Arjun: ha Riya?
Her head snapped up to see Arjun grinning at her, two steps away. She got onto her feet in shock.
Riya: aap….yaha?
Arjun: aaye bagair kaise rakhunga? Cute haina? Pata hai, zindgi mein pehli baar do ghante shopping ki maine, woh dukaan waala toh bas mujhe security se baahar hi bhijwa deta, itne mein ye dikh gaya toh izzat bhi bach gayi
Riya couldn’t help but giggle as roses spread across her cheeks. Arjun smiled. Feeling shy, she lowered her gaze, hugging the teddy close to her
Arjun stepped forward but she slipped behind. Still, he continued. As they entered the house, Riya thought of closing the door before he could enter, but he had already come inside. She stopped thinking of where to run when he caught up to her.
Arjun cupped her face and her brain rang the danger signal: tumhe aisa nahi lagta ki tum kuch zyaada hi sharma rahi ho?
He had barely leaned forward when Riya slipped out from his hold: sir, woh main uh….mujhe walk par jaana hai….aapko kuch aur…kaam hai?
Arjun: is waqt walk par?
Riya: ha woh….mujhe aadat hai
Arjun: acha? Theek hai...tum chaabi wagera le lo, main baahar wait karta hai
She was about to protest but he went out by then. Riya groaned mentally mv “oh god! Ye sab kya ho raha hai? inko pata nahi ki main jhoot bol rahi hu? (absentmindedly taking the keys) ya fir dekh kar bhi undekha kar rahe hai? inhe kuch ho gaya hai ya fir mujhe?” she locked the door still in her thoughts.
Arjun was waiting in the garden for her. She walked towards him in a conflicted state of mind. Arjun smiled at her and they started walking outside. Riya looked at him from the corner of her eyes but he was completely normal.
Suddenly Arjun realised she had stopped. He turned behind.
Arjun: kya hua ruk kyungayi?
Riya: aap….aap aise kyun kar rahe hai mere saath?
Arjun: maine kya kiya?
Riya sighed and clenched her fists: baniye mat! aapko pata haina ki main jhoot bol rahi hu
Arjun(casually): ha
Riya looked at him in disbelief: toh fir aap kuch bolte kyun nahi? us din toh bada keh rahe the ki mujhe jhoot se nafrat hai, ab kya hua?
Arjun smiled and pulled her into his arms. However, this time Riya was too fed up to be shocked but that did not stop her cheeks from going red again.
Arjun: nafrat toh hai lekin tum exemption par ho (he winked at her and pulled her closer) kya haina, main tumse nafrat toh nahi kar sakta na? dil ke liye bura hoga
Her eyes widened blushing hard
Arjun: aur waise bhi tum itni pyaari ho ki…
Riya gave up and his her face in his chest: sir!!! please!! Bas kijiye na flirt karna
Arjun burst into laughter: kyun?
Riya: mujhse aur sehan nahi hoga, main sach mein behosh hokar gir jaungi
Arjun: aise kaise gir jaogi? Main hu na tumhe pakadne ke liye
Riya snuggled closer: sir!!!
Arjun chuckled: acha chodo (he tried to look at her but she refused to lift her face) are dekho toh
Riya: nahi
Arjun: oho Riya aise kaise chalega?
Riya: aap bahot ched rahe hai mujhe
Arjun suppressed his laughter: acha baba nahi chedunga, dekho na
She slightly raised her head
Arjun: tumne subah jo sawaal pucha tha uska jawaab mil gaya?
Riya blushed and hid her face again:….ha
Arjun smiled: acha dekho toh
Riya: nahi mujhe pata hai aap kya karenge
Arjun: acha? Kya karunga?
Riya: aap firse thank you bolenge aur fir….fir
Arjun(cuddling her): fir kya?
She clenched his shirt tightly. He laughed and lifted her chin. Her face was a dark shade of crimson by now
Arjun: chalo theek hai thank you nahi bolunga
Riya was going to say something but the next second felt his lips on hers. This time they stayed,making her dizzy and light headed. It felt like an eternity before he pulled away from her. Her eyes remained shut, breathing heavily as he touched her forehead with his.
Arjun whispered: marry me?
Riya whined, clenching her eyes and throwing her arms around him: stop doing this to me
Arjun laughed: say yes and I’ll stop
She opened her eyes in defeat and gazed into his: yes
Arjun smirked: for today
She riled up and hit him playfully: jayiye aap
Riya tried to run away but he laughed and pulled her back to him for another kiss.
