💫 The Heuphorias Discussion Thread 💫
The pen danced between his fingers like always as his eyes desperately searched for another clue in the reports of the cold case of his wife. The pages of the reports were so beaten by the years of him going through them, a million times a day. Hoping to find something else but in vain. The message flashed on his phone for the general meeting. He shut the files and stuff them in the locked drawer. He was not allowed to go behind the force's back, but there was nothing that was going to stop him.
The man that once couldn't shut up now had few words left to say. He flipped the marker between his fingers as the seats of the conference room started filling it. The first in the room was Rathod. They were once joined at the hip... the handsome duo of the college. Sameer and Arjun. Now they were archenemies. Rathod and Raute. No words were exchanged unless they professional, and even then they were no less than spitting poison.
"This case might take longer than usual, but that's okay," Rathod stated as he distributed the case files. "It's also not like our normal cases."
Arjun flipped opened the case file and skimmed through the pages. He shut it close and stared at Rathod as if he was joking.
"The elections are coming up and the candidate that is predicted to be elected has been attacked, but it has gotten worse since the word about his daughter's wedding came out. He wasn't much worried about it until his daughter became the target. They know the only way he will back up is if something happens to his daughter."
"Are you serious?" Arjun stared at his once-upon-a-time best friend in disbelief.
"Raute!" Rathod warned him. "The water here is deeper than it looks so we have to be alert twenty-four-seven." He informed the team as they stared at him with confusion. "The security team has found some clues that show that it is more than political rivalry."
"We'll be there as their guests or workers so the attackers don't get alert." Rathod continued. "Aisha and Liza you both will go as Riya's best friends and bridesmaids. I'll be working with the VIP security team and the campaign. Chotu you'll work with the wedding planner. Nothing gets approved without thorough security and approval. Shree you'll be the official photographer." and Rathod turned towards his opponent as he spat bitterly, "and you Raute, until this all is over you'll be with Riya like a shadow, her official bodyguard."
"You are kidding? I am not a freaking babysitter, damn it."
He didn't need the damn babysitting job. He needed to find the culprits that were causing the cancer of crime throughout his city. He needed to put the culprits behind the bars in order to feel alive enough to survive till he could find Sikander.
"Team, go pack for the mission." They all knew the dispute between their colleagues were going to get worst. They couldn't get out of there any faster than they did.
"Did we become police officers so we can become guard dogs for the rich?" Arjun barked angrily. The last thing he needed was to follow around a spoiled rich brat.
"Bakwas karney sey pehle puri baat sunn bhi liya karo." Rathod hissed back. He pulled out an envelope and handed it to Arjun. "They found it when the Minister's daughter got attacked."
Arjun wasn't expecting much. He knew his ex-best friend was trying to convince him to go along with them, but he wasn't about to leave serving the people who needed him and go become another puppet for the rich.
The moment he pulled out the card from the envelope, his breath got caught in his throat. That one emblem alone was responsible for the memories that tormented. The flesh that was tattooed with this emblem was the one that took the lights out f his life. The one that stripped his peace, love, joy, and all his relationships. The creatively carved "S" within the red star on the card was the reason his life was in fragments that he didn't know how to put together.
Suddenly he was transformed back to that time. He could taste the dust on the ground as he tried to take a breath. His body was lacerated at multiple places as the wounds burned, but he just wanted to get in that moment. He wanted to save his Roshini. Roshini's agonizing screams were ringing in his ears as they mercilessly stabbed her.
"Raute." He heard Rathod's stern voice and returned back to the cold conference room.
"Fine." He was going end this chase once and for all. Too many relationships were torn from him piece by piece. His soul was bleeding and his wounds were still fresh.
There was no trace in their looks that they belonged to police force. They cleaned up well. They all seemed uncomfortable, but nothing could top the way his stomach churned. There was something warning inside him that to turn back and to never look back at the mansion that was decked up with fairy lights. His heart picked speed when stepped out of the SUV and fixed his tie. It seemed like he was stepping into the war zone. The war between his brain and his heart. Little did he know that this wedding was going to turn his life upside down.
"What kind of circus are we attending?" He ridiculed the site in front of him as he muttered in the mic in the collar of his shirt.
"Behave, Raute."
There was always something about the lavish weddings that made him uncomfortable. The same amount of money could easily feed thousands that starved every minute. A wedding for him was supposed to be a close intimate ceremony attended by those he loved. Like his actually was. Rathod was his best man and as Roshini's brother as well. He made Arjun promise that he would provide a life filled with laughter and happiness and to keep her safe. A promise that Arjun broke merely a year later.
After he was vetted thoroughly, he walked through the tall black iron gates. The pathway was covered with the flower petals as the trees were draped with string lights as well. Jesus Christ. He scowled at the decorations of the mansion that looked more like a castle. He was supposed to meet Rathod in the living room. He was led to the designated destination and throughout the way, his anxiety just spiraled through his body. The inside of the mansion was thousand times more opulent than outside. For a second, he wanted to turn back and run back the way he came. He hated those with money, especially politician. The wealth was stained with the blood of someone somewhere. This much money didn't come without darkness.
Rathod was about to scowl at him when they heard a joyful squeal.
"Sameer Bhaiyya."
Rathod's scowl softened into a smile as he turned. Arjun's forehead creased in confusion. He turned as a girl come running down the stairs. He had never seen her before so he was confused how she knew Rathod that closely. She came running and hugged Rathod.
"I swear I was going to cancel the wedding if you didn't show up." She scolded him as she backed up. "Kaisay bhai ho yar. Na dulhe ki investigation ki, na mile. Aisa bhi koi karta hai."
"Approval process ke liye puri team utha laya." Rathod kissed the top of her head as he joked with her.
Arjun leaned against the pillar as he watched her. The police in him tried to figure her out. From what it seemed like she was the exact opposite of who he was. This shadowing was going to be harder than he thought so. The girl in front of him was the kind of person he was in the past and he hated looking in the mirror and she appeared like she was the mirror of his past. She seemed to be carrying a rainbow and unicorn with her. Her eyes were the purest form like the princesses raised in castles, naive and protected. Hers hadn't seen the nightmares of the world outside her dad's castle like he had. For a second the part in him that still craved hope was jealous of her. Her uncaring, happy attitude. Why did she get to have all the happiness in the world? Why was his world torn apart so heartlessly?
