Riya OS: Dil ye toote na...
She stood there with her toes immersed in the wet sand. Her hair were loose and flying with calm breeze blowing towards her. The waves played a soft rhythm against her ears. The sun set in front of her eyes let out it's last orange light to dance upon the sky. It is then that she closed her eyes and raised her hands to feel the last light of the day dawn upon her. And then just as quickly as it had come the sun set and the sky was engulfed in darkness.
She opened her eyes and the first thing she saw made her smile. It was the moon in place of the sun lightning up the rhythmic waters with it's faint milkish light. Truly it was a sight to behold.
She knew she should be heading home at this hour but seeing the atmosphere she decided to stay a little more. She was wearing a knee length white dress with flats. She took of her footwear and laid herself down on the soft sand like bed.
Looking up at the sky she saw the stars glistening in the dark night sky and somehow it was comforting. People say the star that seems to be glowing the most from your oint of view is someone really close to you. And there was a star right in the middle of the sky looking down upon her, watching her like it always has. It was her Dad.
She recalled all those moments spent with her Dad until he...passed away. All those times when he surprised her on her birthdays with her favourite black forest cake. All those times when she tried to "cook" his favourite dish, pasta for him. He would eat it without flinching. Honestly the pasta was a disaster every time she tried to make it. She had even asked him why he ate it if it tastes so bad and he would simply say more although the combination of ingredients may taste bad but the warmth of love and care in this is what makes it taste so good. And every time he said it would make her smile for the rest of the day. That was her Dad.
She missed him terribly. At first when he had passed away she had refused to believe it. She had refused to mourn over him. She used to stay up all night and wait for him to come and kiss her forehead before she slept. But then slowly as days passed the truth had dawned upon her and it was the first time she had cried.
And Ironic it had all started with the phone call she got on duty. Sometimes when she thinks about it it almost seems as if the phone call hadn't had come her Dad would be still alive. It was the most bizarre connection but no one can change destiny can they?
Apne roothein, paraaye roothein
Yaar roothe naa
Khwaab tootein, waade tootein
Dil ye toote naa
And after his death she was never the same again. The events that took place after that caused great chaos in her life.
"I miss you Dad" she whispered to the stars. A silent tear escaped her but the throbbing pain in her heart never ceased. After 3 years it had come down to shedding silent tears when she was alone but it never helped and neither could she stop herself from being overwhelmed by it.
Her old life would never come back. Her true identity was lost. Her passion, her work would never come back. And she had come to accept this truth even before she was told so.
Roothe to khuda bhi roothe
Saath chhoote naa (x2)
O Allah Waariyan
O main toh haariyan
O tooti yaariyan mila de oye!
It was a really cruel joke life had played on her and the consequences were only hers to bare. The only people that had come close to family were...somewhere far living on life's edge. Risking their lives everyday to save and protect innocent souls. And punishing those who committed the crime. This was her identity once. This is what she used to do.
And among those she called family were some great friends she had made. A great mentor she had met and a...lost soul as well. He had also lost someone close to him and whenever she looked into his eyes she could read the pain, the guilt he felt every moment of his life over her death. His eyes were like an open book. They never lied and always showed his true feelings, his past. He would mask himself with the rudeness and no-nonsense attitude but his eyes were a clear mirror of his feelings. She had started feeling his pain more than he felt it. No doubt she was attracted towards him but this was more than just physical attraction. It was as if she was starting to relate to his pain. Maybe be because she had lost someone as well. The roots went deeper, she knew this much
And her Partner in crime. He had always been there for her. In every moment of her life. In fact they had been best friends since childhood. She had never been so close to anyone like she was with him. No matter what happened he always made her smile in the most bizarre situation. She missed her best friend. She missed being with him. And not only him she missed everyone. Every single one of them. She didn't know what hurt more losing her Dad or the fact that she would never meet them again.
Udte patangon mein
Holi waale rangon mein
Jhoomenge phir se dono yaar (x2)
Waapas to aaja yaar
Seene se laga ja yaar
Dil to huey hain zaar-zaar
It wasn't the perfect life she had but this is all she had. They say life is short and you should live it to the fullest but what do you do when life seems too long a distance to walk alone? Technically she had lost everything, everyone she ever cared about.
Reh bhi na paayein yaar
Seh bhi na paayein yaar
Behti hi jaaye dastaan (x2)
Umr bhar ka intezaar
Ik pal bhi na qaraar
Ungli pe nachaaye dastaan
The world thought she was dead and they were right Riya Mukherjee was dead. It was almost as if she was reborn just like a phoenix rises from it's flames. This was a new life and she had much to do. She got up and wiped the tears from her face. It was time to go.
She looked up to the stars a final time and said, "Good night Dad"
With that she walked away from the serene atmosphere waiting for a new morning to show it's face.
