...Sometimes...
Seven Long months...
Seven months without her...
Seven months without her laugh...
Seven months without her flirty and cheeky taunts, her warm toothy smile, her inviting yet enchanting lavender fragrance, her tinkling and ever-present bangles... Seven months without her presence in his solitary life... He hoped to see her just once more... So that he could tell her..
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
He could not believe the sight in front of him. Shocked, infuriated, helpless.. These words could not comprehend to how desperate yet angered Arjun was feeling. Yet all the usually powerful cop could do was plea for her safety, "Let her go... She was not part of deal..."
This very moment in her short life, she could see her importance in his life... No matter how much the arrogant and egotistical man ignored her existence, she could tell the vulnerable and desperate man in front of her could and would do anything for her safety..
.
All she wanted to do, was run to him, into his arms... Where she would be safe... Safe from the demons of her traumatic past... Safe from the nearing claws of uncertainty and terror... Safe from every scrutiny she has faced by herself! He was her angel, her saviour... But alas, life has its own commands, over which one has no control...
Being born into an army family, with two older brothers and an adoring father. Sakshi Anand was always adored, pampered and protected dearly yet fiercely... She had everything she had wanted for, an adoring family, amazing friends, a well-payed job, a perfect life of sorts...
Being a criminal correspondent for the most popular and prestigious paper in town... Sakshi had her connects as well.. Including her partner Arjun Rawte... He caught the bad guys, she made sure the society knew about the crimes going on... Her life was perfect... Enviable even...
Almost perfect life, Sakshi... Almost perfect. She thought, as she feels the pain of a slap by her kidnappers... She could see the impact of that one slap on Arjun's face... She was being hit, but as if Arjun was feeling half her pain and fear ...
"Where are you hiding those papers ACP?? Tell me where they are..." Yelled her captives... Another slap across the face... and another... Control Sakshi... You have to be strong, for baba and dada*... You have to deal with this torture... You cannot let their sacrifice for their country go to waste...
Thinking about their sacrifice, gave all the strength Sakshi needed to face the torture... It gave her enough strength to bear the physical and the mental torture, as seeing Arjun in this weak state was something she could not handle...
Seeing her saviour in shining armour getting beaten, was something that Sakshi could not manage... She had the urge to shoot at every one of those men... After all, it was his effort and constant support that got Sakshi to smile again, to laugh again after the brutal deaths of her brothers and father...
Seeing them die right in front of her eyes, she felt helpless... Coming back from work, she was expecting her favourite cake to be waiting for her after all it was their darling's birthday... Yet, the rising fire coming from their family home shook Sakshi to the core... If it hadn't been for Arjun that day, she too would have leapt into the flames that erased her child-like happiness for ever...
Owing her life and happiness to Arjun, she attempted to live again... To laugh again, to smile, to taunt... she learnt to be happy again..
Seemingly, Life clearly had other plans for Ms Anand... Exactly, a year later on the very same birthday... She felt herself being carried into a van.. She could not defend herself.. She was attached from behind...
Brought to a secluded garage of sorts, she found herself bounded to a chair, watching the captives gather around the once powerful and strong ACP...
Not knowing anything, all Sakshi wanted to do was to save Arjun from the grasp of those horrendous men... All she could think of was to distract them some how... To sacrifice herself for his life... All she wanted to do was to see her angel be safe...
Another slap to her already burning red cheeks brought her out of her flashback... Being from an army background, she knew very well to not let her enemies show her fear, as she glared back murderously at her kidnapper...
Having the urge to do something, to fight back, to give them a taste of their own medicine... But then (this bit is from Arjun perspective): What is the girl doing? He thought, as he saw Sakshi call over a kidnapper... He saw her whispering to the kidnapper... Arjun was not able to make out the rest of the conversation, as he felt a blow on his head from behind...
I'm sorry Arjun, but this is the only way I can get you out safely.. The only way I know how to, thought Sakshi as she called over a kidnapper and made him a deal... A deal that he wasn't able to say no to... He signaled his man, to do his job as he whacked the back of a gun on Arjun head making him unconscious...
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Seven months later, he still did not know the reason to which Sakshi had called over her perpetrator... He was not able to trace Sakshi anywhere... He had searched everywhere from the slums to the high ends of Mumbai... But like a light that has gone out, he could not find a single sign of a person named Sakshi Anand in Mumbai... She had vanished just like the star in the sky... without a trace...
But how he wished he could tell her... that he was sorry for not being able to save... for not being able to provide her with the protection she deserved... for not being able to provide her with the love she desired... How he wished there existed a Sakshi Anand, to whom he could say he was sorry... To whom he could say that he owed his life to her... To whom he could hold in his arms forever...

Not everyone is meant to stay in your life forever. Sometimes they are only there long enough to teach you the lessons that you need to learn...
NOTE:
*dada: I thought that was brother in Marathi... Please do correct me if I am wrong 😊
