It is not a criticism if I say that I expected more out of this show. Something as tantalizing as "Byomkesh Bakshi"
Today, you have Sujoy Ghosh (yeah the director of KAHAANI) playing the famous detective Byomkesh Bakshi in Rituparno Ghosh's last directorial venture, Bengali mystery thriller Satyanweshi.

Even the great Satyajit Ray made Byomkesh Bakshi with Uttam Kumar.
One of the most successful adaptions of Byomkesh Bakshi (written by Sharadindu Bandyopadhyay in Bengali) was the DD produced "Byomkesh Bakshi" directed by Basu Chatterjee with Byomkesh played by Rajit Kapoor

There are currently plans afoot to recreate Byomkesh Baksi with Sushant Singh Rajput, directed by Dibankar Banerjee.
We also have a replica of Byomkesh Bakshi in Bangladesh, called as Masud Rana.
Apart from this one character, we also had the Bollywood director Pankuj Parasher directed DD serial, with Pankaj Kapoor playing "Karamchand."
The difference is that technology has changed and clues can now be got with technological advances unlike press clippings etc., in the times of Byomkesh Bakshi as shown in Ray's serial or Basuda's serial. That way Arjun does get some brownie points.
Arjun is following the trend set by Byomkesh Bakshi as unlike CID, or Crime Patrol, this serial is more of a projection of the central character's strengths and weaknesses with other cast playing a supporting role, more or less. (barring a few exceptions).
My contention is...why not do better research and create better stories.
Like for example, the story about water contamination, why not relate it to industrial pollution a la Pepsi or Coke plants in Kerala polluting the ground waters and related industrial crimes, instead of always making it personal vendetta dramas.
