PART 2
For three months after the accident Sikandar remained in coma...his limbs had paralyzed...and he had begun showing symptoms of organ failure...The doctors had lost all hope for improvement...
Thrice a week he had dialysis...the only thing connecting him to life was the ventilator...he couldn't breathe on his own...his heart couldn't beat without assistance...a living corpse...that's what he was...
The news about his accident was confined to the knowledge of ETF only..nobody...not even the Commissioner was informed...a strict watch was kept by ETF members at all times...and meanwhile they began investigating Sikandar's activities...trying to gather proof against him..looking for leads to destroy his empire...they had already scrutinized the contents of the bag he had been carrying at the time of accident but all they discovered were a taaveez, a ring , some clothes and some cash...
A part of Arjun was happy to see Sikandar in this condition...the husband in him rejoiced everytime he saw him being fed through tubes...but the more sensitive part of him felt pity...
It was now being contemplated that he should be removed from life support system...for the doctors had already tried everything they could...only a miracle could now save him...and miracles in real life were a rare occurring...very rare indeed...
But destiny had other plans...
it was early december...a sunny morning, when Sikandar opened his eyes...a nurse who was doing the routine rounds saw his eyelids flutter open and rushed to call ETF...
when they arrived the doctors were examining him...he still couldn't breathe without the oxygen mask, his kidneys were still failing, his blood pressure was still fluctuating, his limbs were still paralyzed and though he could listen and see, his speech wasn't clear...and yet...despite everything...he was alive...or was he?
all day long he was reminded of his helplessness...and now he felt coma was infinitely better than this... he tried to move his fingers...he could not...he tried to wriggle his toes...he could not...he tried to speak...but it sounded like some gurgling sound...what life was this...it was this state that taught him the meaning of the phrase 'living corpse'...
he saw ETF team talk to the doctors everyday about new developments...he saw hatred in their eyes..even the doctors and nurses looked at him as he was an outcast...
and this was an additional burden to the guilt that his heart already held..he want to pour it out...but who would listen? Sadly, no one. And then he realised...he couldn't speak in the first place...
arjun still hated him but somehow...the hatred had mellowed down...he had often seen a lost faraway look in his eyes...sometimes he looked like he wanted to say something...but...whatever it was...one thing arjun was sure of...this wasn't the sikandar of the past...he had changed...but the reason of this change was still a mystery...
even though he was alive, sikandar was of no use to ETF.. the reason was simple...he couldn't give a statement...
But once again a miracle occurred...gradually his speech clarified...he soon became coherent enough for his statement to be recorded...
the date was 24th of December...exactly six months after Roshni's death...
ETF was called and the session began... Sikandar confessed about the heinous crimes he had committed, including Roshni's murder...and if he was to be believed...he was genuinely remorseful...his eyes and his tone were evidence to it...
he asked them to bring the taveez and the ring...and revealed that a chip was hidden in the taveez while the ring had a data card concealed within it...Shree took it so as to extract information from it...Sikandar also gave the names of all his aides which included famed politicians and businessmen...he also named his main hideouts and other relevant information...but the most shocking thing was that he cooperated willingly...not once did they have to pressurize him...not once did he taunt arjun...not even once...
throughout the session his voice was like that of a person truly ashamed of his sins..
the interrofgation finished...ETF was about to leave when Sikandar called ot to Arjun...
"mujhe baat karni hai tumse...mana mat karna..." his pleading eyes were glistening with unshed tears...
Arjun reluctantly stayed back signalling others to leave...Rathore wore a questioning look but he too left..
" yahan aao..." he asked arjun to come closer..
unaware of why he was even listening to the scoundrel before him, arjun sat beside him on the bed...
" uss bag ko lao.." he said..
arjun brought the bag...it was the one he had with him at the time of accident...
"iske base ko slice karo" he told arjun..
with a pocket knife arjun did as he was told...it wasn't empty as he had expected...it held a pocket diary and a letter in an envelope...
arjun looked at sikandar suspiciously...
"inhe jala dena.." sikandar requested him..."vaada karo...tum inhe jala doge...ye tumhaare case ke matlab ke nahi hai...kissi ko mat dena...jala dena inhe... vada karo..."
sikandar was getting breathless...arjun shouted for the doctors...he could here their footsteps in the corridor..
sikandar was getting hyper now...
"vaada karo tum inhe jala doge...please arjun...vada karo..."
"main vada karta hun.." arjun said in order to calm him..
a faint smile came on his lips as sikandar relaxed and said" ab main chain se mar sakunga...shukriya...aur ho sake toh..."
his eyes shut before he could complete...but his face was peaceful...
arjun gazed at the diary and the envelope...stuffing them into his jeans pocket...he left the room...
ETF left for the office to examine the chip and data cad while his body was sent for post-mortem...
but throughout the ride it wasn't the evidences which occupied arjun but it was the diary and the letter which made him restless...
"jala dena inhe.." sikandar's words echoed in his mind...what was in them? Arjun had to find out...
