"Arjun, I'm sorry na... please mujhe maaf kardo... please..."
She held her ears asking series of sorries but her just turned his face away.
He concentrated on the rotis on the plate not even sparing a second glance at her.
Her face fell and slowly it lit up.
She went and sat next to him, tore a piece of roti and dipped it in dal, held it near his mouth to eat.
It always worked in the past, but today...
He averted his face and tore another piece of roti for himself.
She was hurt and he was hurting more.
She slowly made her way to him and sang
Kyun na bole mo se mohan kyun
Hai roothe roothe mohan yun
Kaise manaaun haai kaise manaau
She held his face and tried to turn him towards herself but he just brushed her hand and went away to living area.
He had asked her a simple thing. Just to stay back home and not to go out alone.
She had not listened to him and the thing he dreaded had happened.
Someone had attacked her and if he had not reached on time, he would have lost her.
He again heard her voice,
Kyun na bole mo se mohan kyun
Hai roothe roothe mohan kyun
Kaise manaaun haai kaise manaau
Roshni hugged him from behind. He stood stiff, although wiling to hug her back and hide her from the eyes of the world, all to himself.
She bunched the shirt near his chest and rested her cheek on his back , waiting for him to pull her and hug her tight.
Un binn kate naa raina
Unn binn aawe na ik pal chaina
Unn bin jeeun tto kaise main jeeu'n haay..
Seeing no response from him, she just left him, took steps behind.
Tears filled her eyes, pain engulfed her heart.

Arjun turned around hearing the sob, and saw her eyes pooled.
He hated tears in her eyes. Those always weakened his resolve.
He could not bear the sight of her beautiful face red due to crying.
He immediately gathered her in his arms and she cried.

"roshni, please rona matt... I cant bear see you crying. It hurts me shona.. I am sorry ki main tumse naraaz tha..."
She sobbed hard and in between she spoke
"i-am...*sniff* sorry arjun..*sob*wo...wo-main... sorry..." she again cried.
He caressed her back and smoothed her hair, trying to pacify her.
"shh... kuch nahin hua hai naa... ab chup ho jao.."
"aap mujhse naraaz ho jao, mujhe daanto, kuch bhi karo.. par please mujhse baat karna matt chodna Arjun. I cant stand that... I promise aaj ke baad main kabhi aapki baat nahin talungi... pakka..."
He smiled at her and kissed her forehead and then her cute red nose. He wiped her tears and said
"roshni, tumhari naak laal hogayi..."
"Arjun..."

His trance broke when sameer Rathod shook him and asked what the matter was.
Arjun just shook his head and stared at the same lines he was staring before with not even an ounce of concentration.
He heard Shree, sakshi, singing and rest team sitting and listening.
The very same song... they had not stopped it yet.
He heard Shree singing
When you go when you leave
then you take a little piece of me with you...
There's a hole in my soul

Yes... she had left him for ever. She had asked him not to keep silent but it was her who became silent for ever.
She had taken away his soul, his reason for living, happiness with her.
There was nothing left with him.
His heart had become empty without her love which filled it, his heart had become cold, not ready to accept any kind of warmth from anyone.
His soul was lost without her, without its soul mate...
He sighed heavily and leaned back to the chair in exhaustion. He closed his eyes but yet listened to what they were singing.

liza immediately asked Shree
"specky, iska kya matlab hai? Tum to jaante ho ki mujhe ye sab pata nahin hai..."
Sameer and Aisha both together
"iska matlab ye hai ki..."
They saw each other and smiled
"Sir, aap batayiye..."
"nahin Aisha tum batao..."
"oki... iss ka matlab ye hai ki even if a person dies, the soul is immortal.
Weapon cannot harm the soul,fire cannot burn it,

in short, there is nothing which can harm a soul or destroy it"
Sameer nodded and liza thanked her.
Not far, Arjun listened to her words.
If what she said was true then...a small smile crept up on his always serious face.
He wanted to believe it. Trust those words once, seek solace...
"what if she is near me? Around me seeing the way I am living? If she is here why don't she come to me? Is she upset? Is it why she does not come to me???" he mind was continuously speaking.

Just sakshi's voice reached his ears but nothing registered in his brain... the same thing revolved in his mind
Sakshi saw him through corner of his eyes...
He was leaning to the back of his chair, eyes closed and in deep thought.
She saw a slow relief spreading on his face.
Sameer followed her sight and saw her intently staring Arjun.
Even he saw the calmness on his face.
Roshni... what else in this world can bring calmness to his soul which was bruised badly?!
He motioned sakshi to continue the song.

She felt these lines were perfectly suiting arjun's mind.
They were as if reflecting the unspoken words of his heart.
Even Arjun was in the same train of thoughts.
He had tried hard to cope up with life after her death, but was unsuccessful.
Had he not even tried to end his life once?! If it were not her words echoing in his mind, he would have taken his life.
Then he had immersed himself in work, finding criminals and punishing them, trying to gain some semblance.

Whatever the world said about him, he never cared for those.
He felt either the world would pity him or blame him.
He did not want both.
He just wanted her, hug her, be assured by her that she would always be by his side.
Otherwise the world was meaningless to him and he was just lost in her memories, when he had no case in divert himself.

he slowly opened his eyes when sakshi ended the song, those held unshed tears, and saw her staring him intently with an unknown emotion.
her gaze did not show pity nor were they accusing him. It was something else. Understanding...
She gave him a tender smile to him.
He just looked away and stared out of the window, where he could see stars twinkling, amongst which one was his Roshni...
"if you want me to live, then I ll roshni... par...tumhare bina... mushkil hai mere liye..." he said to himself.
