Part-8

He got up from his seat and walked upto the bed, where his bag rested. He took out a cam with attached microphone and placed it such that whatsoever they were talking about, was getting recorded.

"Abhi nahi toh kabhi nahi bol paogi...and yeh sab tumhare in-laws ki presence mein record hoga...galti se bhi jhooth mat bolna...apna nuksaan toh karogi hi...balki unki uss umeed ko bhi todd dogi...umeed, ki woh apni doosri beti ko nahi bacha paaye..." Sameer spoke up calmly and walked outside to call her in-laws.

A few minutes later, they entered inside and took their seats. Sameer turned on the device and spoke up,

"Mein jo bhi questions puchun unke saache aur clear answers dijiye Mrs.Dasgupta..."

She nodded in +ve and than looked at her in-laws who assured that everything would be fine.

"Your marriage with Neil? Tell us everything from the start...like who fixed this marriage and all that stuff..." Sameer asked her.

Anu : "Mere parents ne meri shaadi fix ki thi Neil se..."

Sam : "Tumhein uski past life ke baare mein pata tha?"

She nodded in -ve.

Sam : "Tumhare parents ko? I mean tumne inform toh kiya hi hoga iss sab ke baare mein? Ki woh tumhein marta peet tha hai?"

Anu : "Unhone meri koi madad nahi ki...shayad unhein yeh sab pehle se pata tha..."

Now that was something that caught his attention. If her parents were very well aware of his beastly side than why did they got her married to a beast like him?

Sam : "Tumhare parents ne tumhari madad nahi ki...lekin aap log toh iski madad kar sakte thay? Aap logon ne police complaint karna bhi zaruri nahi samjha?" he asked as he looked at three faces alternatively.

Anu : "Sameer...Neil ki pahunch bahut uppar tak hai...agar mein case kar bhi deti...toh bhi koi farak nahi padta..."

Mr.Dasgupta too spoke in her favour,

"Haan beta...Neil bahut hi khatarnak hai...kuch bhi kar sakta hai...issiliye humne tumhein yahaan bulaya hai..."

Their tones easily reflected that they were still hiding some truth from him. Sameer thought for a while and than looked at Mr.Dasgupta,

"Sir, aap abhi bhi bahut kuch chupa rahe hain...please, sab sach sach bata dijiye...please...aapke sach bolne se kisi ki zindagi bach sakti hai...please Sir..."

Mrs.Dasgupta who was almost in tears motioned Mr.Dasgupta to speak out the ultimate truth. Yes, the ultimate truth.

"Woh...beta woh...Neil ne..." Mr.Dasgupta stopped abruptly.

Sameer-Anushka looked at each other and than at Mr.Dasgupta who spoke up,

"Indraneil ne Anushka ko Mumbai mein dekha tha...aur woh usse pasand karne laga...woh shaadi karna chahta tha usse...usne jaa kar Anushka ke parents se bhi baat ki thi...lekin unhone ne uss waqt yeh keh kar taal diya tha ki Anushka ko koi aur ladka pasand hai..."

Sameer looked at Anushka who than lowered her eyes. He didn't knew what her gesture meant...he wondered whether she was trying to control her anger...or whether she was thinking about the guy she loved...probably him?

She couldn't believe on what she heard a few moments back. She had to leave the person she loved the most for this disgusting guy. Or was she made to leave him? The truth wasn't fully out yet.

"Uske baad?" Sameer asked.

"Neil kisi bhi haal mein Anushka se shaadi karna chahta tha...humne usse bahut samjhana chaha lekin woh nahi maana...woh phir Anushka ke ghar gaya...aur iss baar unhein dhamkane ke liye...ke agar unhone Anushka ki shaadi usse na karwayi toh woh Anushka ke bhai Ankur ko galat case ke chalte jail bhej dega..." Mrs.Dasgupta spoke up.

Was that a marriage or a deal? Sanushka wondered.

Indraneil jaisa ghatiya insaan meine aaj takk nahi dekha...koi apni pasand ko paane ke liye itna neeche kaise gir sakta hai? Sameer thought.

"Aur issiliye mere maa-baba ne meri shaadi Neil se karwa di? Haina? Taaki Ankur ko jail na jaana pade?" Anu spoke up calmly.

Mrs.Dasgupta nodded in +ve.

Someone has rightly said, sach humesha kadva hota hai..

An hour later,

Sameer sat down on the bed of the guest room, thinking about Anushka.

Na jaane kitna kuch sehna pada hoga iss larki ko meri wajah se...agar thoda jaldi jaan jaata mein uske liye apni feelings, toh aaj usse yeh sab na sehna padta...na hi itni complicated hoti uski zindagi...

Ab yeh woh Anushka toh rahi hi nahi...jisse mein jaanta tha...jitni bak-bak karti thi...utni hi achi officer bhi thi...

That's when the door opened and she entered inside. She walked towards the table and placed a coffee mug on the table. She looked at him and than motioned him to have his coffee.

"Do minute...mujhe tumse kuch baat karni hai..." he said.

"Ab kya reh gaya hai baat karne ko..." she replied.

"Bahut kuch..." he replied and walked upto her.

He held her by her wrist and made her sit on the sofa, as he sat down opposite to her.

"Kuch aisi baat jo mein abhi bhi nahi jaanta?" he asked.

"Nandini...Neil ki pehli patni..." she replied.

Yes, when they had discussed about this whole goddamn case few minutes back, no one had mentioned about Nandini. Before he could ask her about anything further, she forwarded him her phone.

"Jab meine tumse phone manga tha...uss waqt mujhe Nandini ke information ke regarding mail mili thi...issiliye..." she said.

He took the phone from her and went through the mail, and later forwarded the very same mail to himself. He returned her the phone back and she got up to leave, when he asked her the ultimate question,

"Kya tum mujhse pyaar karti ho?"

She looked at him, and than walked out. He didn't get what her answer was. Was it a yes or a no?

Said goodbye, turned around
