CHAPTER 18

"Kya baat hain Avantika?" Sameer asked as he stood with his hands folded in front of Avantika who was sitting on the couch.
Avantika sat there with her head bent down. She closed her eyes, sighed and then said, "Uss din railway station mein aap pe goli Bhaisa ne chalayi thi."
Sameer only said, "Janta hoon."
"Haan. Unhe pata chal gaya tha ki hum Mumbai chale jaane wale the. Aapke Bhabasa ne jab hamein ghar se nikala tha tab unhone Bhaisa ko thappad mara tha. Galti Bhaisa ki hi thi. Lekin Bhabasa aur Bhaisa dono ka pehle se hi irada tha ki shaadi ke baad aapke parivaar ke madad se iss constituency pe raaj kare. Lekin aapka parivaar iske sakt khilaf tha. Isliye Bhabasa mujhe aapke paas vapas nahin aane diya," Avantika said as tears streamed down her cheeks.
"Ek minute Avantika, mujhe kuch samajh mein nahin aa raha hain."
She started explaining to him what had happened that day.
Bhagwat Chauhan had put forward the proposal of turning over some land to an investor who would set up a factory near the village. Jagdish Rathore knew his actual plan. If it wasn't for Sameer he wouldn't have even agreed for Sameer and Avantika's marriage. Moreover Avantika was a nice girl too. Jagdish refused right away, in the process warned Bhagwat to mend his ways. Avantika's Bhaisa blew up the matter and insulted Sameer's brother. The fight went out of control and Sameer's Bhabasa slapped Aditya.
Avantika was banished from the house and was not allowed to go back. Avantika was warned by her family that if she cared for her or Sameer's life she would never return to him. Sameer upon receiveing the news returned to Ajmer to return to Mumbai with Avantika. Avantika left her house and was ready to go with him. In the station when they were about to board the train, Sameer was shot!

"Sameer!" Avantika was crying as he was being taken into the OT.
After he was taken in Avantika felt dizzy and collapsed in a chair outside the OT. Sameer's family was also present there. Sameer's Bhabisa immediately attended to her and the truth that Avantika was pregnant with Sameer's child came out.
They didn't know whether to be happy or sad! By then Bhagwat and his son also came to the hospital and they got the news too.
Bhagwat slapped his daughter!
"Maine tumse kahan tha na usse door raho!" he screamed at the top of his voice.
"Chauhan!" Jagdish Rathore stopped Chauhan.
"Tum issme se bahar raho. Ab ye tumhari ghar ki bahu nahin hain!" Bhagwat said and dragged Avantika out of the hospital.
"Main uss Aditya ko zinda nahin chodunga!" Shivam balled his fists.
"Nahin! Isse yahin rokdo Shivam. Chauhan jaisi gandagi se door rahe tho hi acha hain," Jagdish said and stopped Shivam.

Chauhan's Haveli:

"Main Sameer se pyaar karti hoon! Uske bina ji nahin paaongi!"
"Tho mar jao!" Chauhan said to his daughter.
"Agar tujhe Sameer ya phir tere iss hone wale bache ki jaan ki parva hain tho tu usse door rahegi. Samjhi?" Aditya threatened his sister, "Sari biradari ke saamne hamari bajjati ki hain unhone!"
"Dekha kya hua aaj? Main chahun tho usse maar bhi sakta tha. Mujhe koi parva nahin hain, mujhe phaasi ho ya umar kaid," Aditya said.
All Avantika could do was break down. All the love she had for her family was wiped away that night.

"Tumne mujhe ye sab kuch pehle kyun nahin bataya? Tum unn dhamkiyon se dar gayi? Mujhe maar kar kahaan jaate woh log? Unhe saza tho zaroor milta! Lekin tumne mujhe sazaa kyun diya?" he said shaking her by her shoulders.
"Mujhe aapki jaan ki parva thi. Aap nahin jaante, mere parivaar ke log insaan nahin haivaan hain, haivaan! Unhe sazaa ki koi parva nahin hain! Ya phir maut ki! Sirf dushmani se matlab hain. Main aapke saath jina chahti thi. Aapki maut nahin chahti thi!" Avantika said.
Sameer let go of her. "Itna sab kuch hua? Aath saal Avantika, aath saal! Mujhe apni beti se door rakha. Mujhe sach se door rakha. Main, mera saara parivaar samajhtha tha ki tum bhi iss dushmani mein.."
"Nahin Sameer. Inn aath saalon mein maine kahin baar try kiya ki uss daldal se nikal aao. Lekin har baar mujhe saare darwaze band dikhayi diye. Main kya karti? Agar aapko kuch ho jaata tho mere saanse hi ruk jaati. Lekin ab nahin Sameer. Mujhse aur nahin hoga! Main aapke bina jee nahin paaungi!"
Sameer stood there speechless. He had no idea that Avantika had been through so much alone. But, how would he know when Avantika never told him? It was true that Chauhan wouldn't care about anything as long as his is ego is satisfied. But, right now, there was nothing that Avantika had to fear. Her father was on the death bed, and her brother a murderer who was going to hanged to death, if arrested. No doubt she could tell him the truth now. What else did he need? Avantika wanted to come back into his life, along with their daughter. Their family would be complete now.
"Main aapse bahut pyaar karti hoon Sameer. Pichle aath saalon mein har pal mujhe isi pal ka intazaar tha. Kab main uss daldal se bahar aa paungi aur aapko ye sach bata paoongi. Sameer, do you still'" Avantika couldn't complete her sentence.
Sameer walked towards her and wiped her tears. He kissed her on her forehead and hugged her. Avantika got her answer!

Riya ran downstairs without looking back. She never thought she would have the guts to say what she just said to Arjun. She had clearly crossed the line, scratch that, she took a huge leap over that.
But she could see it in his eyes! She knew right away, that he cared for her, for her feelings! She knew he genuinely felt every word he said. He apologized for all those times he broke her heart. But why? What happened all of a sudden?
She remembered the day he told her never to regret anything she ever did. Images and memories started flashing in front of her eyes.
She remembered how scared he was when she fell down the pit in the cave on the island. She couldn't see it then, but now realized the care and concern he had for her that day.
She remembered how he held onto her hand that morning. He wasn't angry on her, in fact he was worried about her.
But what did all this mean?
She now knew he cared for her. The impossible now slowly seemed possible to her. But'
She stopped infront of her door and was standing there lost in thought.
"Riya?" Rathore said. He had come down along with Avantika.
"Sir?" Riya asked slightly surprised to see them there.
"Are you fine Riya? Kuch hua kya?" Avantika asked.
She was about to say something when she saw Arjun coming towards them. Her heart started racing. She couldn't muster the courage to face him. What will he do? How will he behave with her now? She had somehow managed to crack the barrier he had put up..but now what? What will be his reaction?
Rathore followed her eyes and turned around to see Arjun. He saw them staring at each other.
"Hua kya hain?" Rathore asked, now a little irritated.
"Kuch nahin sir," Riya said, "Good night."
She hurried into her room and shut the door behind her.
She shook her head, "Kya kar rahi ho tum? Ho kya gaya hain tumhe? Be confident girl! Be happy for him. He is finally opening up!"
Rathore was now a little worried. "Rawte, kya hua hain? Is she fine?"
Arjun just walked past him without saying anything.
"Rawte main tumse kuch pooch raha hoon!"
Avantika stopped Rathore. Arjun stopped for a moment and then walked away.

Before Arjun closed his eyes that night, he decided to tell Riya about Roshni as soon as possible. But, how would he tell her?

Next day morning:
8:00AM

The Rathore haveli was in a festive mood. It was the first day of the Navratri and preparations were on full swing. Devi Mayya's idol was beautifully decorated and preparations for the pooja were going on. Avantika was helping Gayatri and the youngest daughter in law of the house also joined them.

8:30AM

The ETF team had assembled in the hall, when the aarti was going on.
Rathore was already present at the aarti along with Avantika. Saumya was still sleeping.
The ETF team stood at a distance and witnessed the aarti. Arjun had his back turned towards Devi Mayya.
Riya looked at him and then at Devi Mayya. She joined her hands in prayer, "Devi mayya, raksha karna."
After the aarti Gayatri turned around to see the team standing away from them. She beckoned them to come and take the aarti and prasad. They removed their shoes and took blessings, except Arjun. Riya took the prasad. Gayatri looked at Arjun and asked Riya, "Woh wahaan pe?"
Before Riya could answer, Avantika interrupted them. She took the thali from Gayatri's hands and gave it to Riya. "Unhe prasad deke aao," she said.
"Main?" Riya asked, stunned.
"Haan. Jao," she said and turned Riya in his direction.

"Avantikaji ko bhi pata chal gaya?" Shree asked Chotu.
"Arey yaar woh tho bahut sharp hain," Chotu said.

Riya's hands were shaking as she approached Arjun, "Sir, prasad."
This was going to be a test for her. His verdict on her statements last night.
"Riya main.."
"Sir, jaanti hoon aapko meetha pasand nahin hain. Lekin ye Devi Mayya ka prasad hain.."
"Aur mana nahin kar sakte, right?" Arjun asked.
Riya was a little surprised, "Yes, sir.."
"Mana karoonga tho kya hoga? Tumhari Devi Mayya mujhe saza degi?" Arjun asked as he folded his hands.
"Nahin sir. Devi Mayya maa ki roop hoti hain. Aur ek maa apne bachon ko kabhi aisehi sazaa nahin de sakti. Sirf aashirwaad de sakti hain. Isliye please.." she smiled, picked up a sweet and offered it to him.
He had never accepted prasad from anyone else except from Roshni. He turned away and was about to walk out of there.
The smile on Riya's face vanished at that instant. She knew the one thing she feared the most had happened. She did cross her line and now she was going to pay for it. Last night she thought he was opening up but, maybe she took the wrong meaning out of his simple sorry. Maybe she misread his eyes, his inner self! As these thoughts raced through her mind, her heart sank and she felt dizzy.
Before Arjun began to walk away he looked at Riya one final time. He saw the distress in her eyes. He understood that she came to him looking for answers, and he hurt her yet again. He could be such a jerk sometimes. All she asked him was to accept the prasad, nothing else. Couldn't he do even that? Damn! He couldn't stand that feeling of hurt in her eyes.
Riya was about to put the prasad back in the thali when she saw Arjun turning around. She wondered what he would say now.
But what he did was totally unexpected. He accepted the prasad that was in her hand! Riya stood there her eyes wide open in surprise. He looked at Devi Mayya's idol and then at Riya, "Keh dena apni Devi Mayya se. Ki maine ye prasad le liya hain iska matlab ye nahin ki main.."
"Ki aap unhe maante hain," Riya completed his sentence. A smile appeared on Riya's lips and he could see her happiness in her eyes, "Kehdungi. Lekin thode din rukiye sir, aap bhi unhe maan ne lagenge."
"Thode din rukiye ACP Rawte, aap bhi bhagwan ko maan ne lagenge.."
Roshni's words reverberated in his ears. He could once again see his past merge with his present. He looked at Riya one final time and walked out of there, his heart and mind finally agreeing with each other.
"Mujhe mere sawalon ke jawaab milgaye hain sir. Thank you so much," she said to herself.

Shree and Chotu were left with their mouths wide open in shock. Rathore who had seen this was quite amused and turned towards Avantika. Avantika smiled and shrugged which meant, "I told you."

15 minutes later:

The ETF team assembled in the sit-out of the mansion, to discuss the case.
Riya was summarising the case.
"6:15PM ke kareeb Chauhan ko goli lagi. Uske baad.." Riya said and turned towards Rathore.
"Maine kal raat Saumya se phirse baat ki. Uske hisaab se, Jaipur airport ke bahar woh teeno ek taxi main baithe aur ek hotel mein gaye the. Wahan unhone kuch khaya phir uske baad highway ka raasta pakad liye. Saumya keh rahi thi bahut trees the, road ke dono sides par, aur Aditya bhi Ajmer ki baat kar raha tha uske saamne. Iska matlab woh Ajmer ke taraf hi aa rahe the. Kuch der baad woh driver ek chote se chai ke dukaan par ruka. Aditya bhi uss driver ke saath bahar aaya. Saumya window niche karke Aditya ko bulya, lekin Aditya kisi aur aadmi se baat kar raha tha. Uss aadmi ka chehra dhaka hua tha. Saumya gaadi se bahar utri. Saumya keh rahi thi, ki usse dekhte hi woh doosra aadmi Aditya pe gussa ho gaya tha aur uspe chillane laga. Woh driver aakar Saumya ko andar bithane wala tha jab uss driver pe aur Aditya pe achanak hamla hua. Uske baad shayad unn logo ne Saumya ko drug kiya," Rathore said.

"Woh aadmi Saumya ko dekh kar gussa hua aur Aditya pe chillane laga..? Shayad Saumya ko wahan hona nahin chahiye tha," Arjun said.
"Shayad. Aditya wahan kisise milne wala tha, tho iska matlab yahin hua ki woh log shayad wahin honge jiske paas Aditya protection ke liye jaane wala tha. Lekin unhi logon ne uspe hamla kyun kiya?" Rathore wondered.
"Sir, Devilaal.. Uska mobile phone kal shaam se dormant hain. Chauhan ka call hi aakhri wala tha," Shree told them.
"Sir, shayad Devilaal hi hain jo ye sab kar raha hain," Chotu said.
"Lekin usse Devilaal ko kya faida hoga? Agar woh Chauhan ko nuksaan pahuchayega tho khud ka nuksaan hoga. Chauhan ke bina un dono ka business tho gaya kaam se," Rathore said.
"Ye gair kanooni dhande hain kya?" Arjun asked.
"Milawat ka kaam, illegal pharmacy business; the list goes on. Kisi bhi dhande ke khilaf koi bhi sabut nahin bachne diya Chauhan ne. MP jo tha," Rathore said, "Bahut saalon se chal raha hain ye sab."
"Aur woh Purushottom singh Bhati. Unka kya? Uhone inn dono ko rokne ki koshish nahin ki?" Arjun asked.
"Kyun nahin kiya?" Jagdish Rathore intervened, "Rokna chaha. Lekin sabut.. kahan the sabut? Jab police hi kuch nahin kar paayi, tab woh kya karpaayenge? Unke liye inn parivaaron ke beech shanti banaye rakhna hi sabse zaroori kaam tha. Kanoon ko apne haathon mein lene ke sakth khilaf hain woh."
He paused for a moment, "Main chahta hoon ki aap log ek baat ka dhayan rakhe. Navratri shuru huyi hain aaj se, gaun mein kolahal hoga. Hari Singh ke ghar mein maatham chaya hua hain. Aap kripaya karke yahaan koi gambheer samasya khada mat keejiye. Ye taikikaat jitni jaldi pura ho jaye utna acha hoga."
"Bhabasa aap fikar mat kijiye. Main vaada karta hoon ki yahan koi gadbad nahin hoga," Rathore assured his father. Jagdish nodded at him and left the place.
"Rathore, kya tumhare ghar waale Aditya ko chot pahunchane ki koshish karenge?" Arjun asked without any hesitation. Riya, Shree and Chotu crossed their fingers and waited for the storm.
"Agar marna hota tho ussi din maar dalte, jis din Aditya ne mujhe maarne ki koshish ki, aath saal pehle. Nahin mera parivaar aisa nahin kar sakta hain. Agar fir bhi tumhe yakeen nahin hain tho, tum hamare guest house aur iss ghar mein bhi talashi karva sakte ho. Mujhe koi problem nahin hain," Rathore said, remaining calm. The trio sighed in relief.
Just then Inspector Rathi entered and handed them the sketch of the man the taxi driver had described.
"Iske baare mein koi jaankari?" Rathore asked him.
"Haan sir. Ek jaana maana kidnapper hain. Police isse dhoond rahi hain. Iske baare mein kal akbaar mein bhi chapi thi front page mein. Ek ajeeb baat hain sir. Kayi hafto se ye dormant hain. Lekin kisi ko ye nahin pata hain ki woh Jaipur main nahin hain. Agar aata tho hamare informers ko pata chal jaata. Tho fir ye involved kaise ho sakta hain?"
"Iska matlab woh driver jhoot bol raha hain?" Riya asked.
Arjun thought for a moment, "Chotu tumhe kal raat ko uss taxi mein koi newspaper mila?"
Chotu tried to recollect, "Haan sir! Mila tha. Date kal ka hi tha,"
"Matlab woh driver kuch tho chupa raha hain. Shree pata karo woh kahan hain. Paper mein dekhe kidnapper ka tasvir banva diya. Usike paas saare sawalon ke jawab hain," Arjun tols Shree.
"Phone switched off hain," Shree said.
"Shree, Chotu tum log uske ghar jao aur pata karo uske baare mein. Main Hari Singh ke ghar jaata hoon talashi lene. Rawte, tum aur Riya Devilaal ke yahaan jao."

20 minutes later:

The police SUV was about to enter the gates of Devilaal's mansion when another SUV exited it. The glasses were heavily tinted; hence Arjun couldn't see who was there in it.

A guard tried to stop Arjun near the main door of the house , but Arjun and Riya stormed into the house along with the police force.
Devilaal who was taken aback by this sudden search in his house, grabbed his rifle and walked towards Arjun.
"Ye ho kya raha hain?" Devilaal was furious.
"ETF. Hamare paas search warrant hain. Aapke ghar ki talashi leni hain. Aditya Chauhan lapata hain. Aur HAri Singh ke bete ki khoon huyi hain. Hamein shak hain ki aap isme involved hain," Arjun said.
Devilaal who was now fuming with anger, raised his gun and pointed it at Arjun,
"Nikaljao! Nahin tho anjaam bahut bura hoga."
Riya had her gun pointed at Devilaal, ready to shoot him if he made a move, "Hamein sirf talashi leni hain. Warrant hain hamare paas. Isliye gun neeche," she said. But Devilaal didn't listen to her.
"Suna nahin? Talashi leni hain. Agar aap cooperate karenge tho behtar hoga," Arjun said as he folded his hands, challenging Devilaal.
Devilaal lowered his gun, "Karo jo karna hain. Lekin tum logon ko kuch nahin milne wala hain."
"Apne kal Bhagwat Chauhan se baat kiya?" Arjun asked him.
"Haan kiya, tho?"
"Kya baat huyi thi?"
"Tumhe kya? Tum hote kaun ho mujhe poochne waale?"
Arju clenched his jaw and balled his fist. Riya saw that and decided to do the damage control. Before Arjun could do something in anger, "Dekhiye. Aap zara tameez se baat kijiye. Pooche huye sawalon ke jawab dijiye please. Nahin tho aapko police investigation ko rokne ke jurm mein arrest karna padega. Isiliye seedha seedha jawab dijiye."
Seeing Riya speak, Devilaal calmed down a little. Misbehaving with a woman, was the last thing expected from a man of such status in the society.
"Bhagwat Chauhan se aapki kya baat huyi thi?" Riya asked once again.
Both Arjun and Riya knew that they won't be getting any truth from him.
Devilaal told them that it was about the constituency and other such stuff, as expected.
Just then Arjun got a call from Rathore, "Hari Singh ke bete se Aditya ki meeting Devilaal ne hi arrange kiya tha, lekin woh Aditya ke saath wahan uss raat ko nahin tha. Purushottam ji bhi iske baare mein jaante the. Ye sab mujhe Hari Singh ke driver ne bataya jo khoon ke waqt wahin tha. Hari Singh ke bete ne usse apne saath out house le gaya tha, Aditya se milne. Mujhe nahin lagta Hari Singh iss sabme shaamil hain. Apne bete ke maut ke baad usse bahut bada dhakka laga hain. Kal raat ko usse heart attack bhi aaya tha. Iss halat mein.."
Rathore also told him that Aditya had warned Hari Singh's son to keep away from their business matters. Hari Singh's son was beginning to probe into their matters too much. But then the quarrel broke out and in the process Aditya killed the MP's son.

Arjun cut the call. He signaled Riya to come with him. He took her to side and said to her in a low voice, "Riya iss ghar ke naukaron se baat karo. Ye pata karne ki koshish karo ki abhi abhi iss ghar se bahar kaun gaya tha. Jitna ho sake utna information nikalne ki koshish karo."
"Yes, sir," she said and left.
Arjun kept an eye on Devilaal. He didn't want to ask him anymore questions, because he knew he wouldn't find any answers.
Fifteen minutes later, they exited Devilaal's house with empty hands.

In the SUV:

"Sir, woh aadmi Purushottam Singh Bhati tha," Riya said, "Ek aur dilchasp baat ye hain ki, ek naukar keh raha tha ki Devilaal unke khaas hain. Bahut baar aate jaate hain, lekin kisiko ye baat pata nahin chalta hain."
Arjun smirked.
"Aapko kya lagta hain sir? Ki Purushottamji bhi isme'"
"Kuch bhi ho sakta hain Riya. Sabke apne apne raaz hain. Pura sach koi nahin bata raha hain. Agar koi sach uglega tho woh Taxi driver. Shree ko phone lagao aur pata karo ki kya hua hain."

Shree informed them that the driver wasn't in his house. He told his wife that he would be back by lunch but no one knew his whereabouts.
Arjun checked the time, it was now close to 10:15AM.
Arjun then told Riya whatever Rathore told him.
"Woh taxi driver iss gaun mein kahin bhi ho sakta hain," Riya paused for a moment, "Agar iss Purushottamji ko iske baare mein pata tha, tho unhone kuch kiya kyun nahin? Kya isse in parivaaron ke beech khoon kharaba nahin hoga? Aur Devilaal se milne aaye the woh. Sir, mujhe lagta hain zaroor kuch gadbad hain," Riya said looking at Arjun.
"Gadbad tho hain. Purushottam Singh Bhati, unse baat karni hi padegi."
"Sir, hamare paas na koi warrant hain ya koi sabot, kya poochenge unse?"
"Wahin jo poochna chahiye," Arjun said and called Rathore.
"Rathore, hum Purushottam Singh Bhati se milne jaa rahe hain. Tum bhi unke ghar pahunch jao. Shree aur Chotu kahan hain?"
"Abhi abhi Chauhan ke haveli aur guest house mein checking khatam huyi hain. Ek aur baat Inspector Rathi ka phone aaya tha. Jaipur aur Ajmer, dono ke checkposts pe checking chal rahi hain. "Maybe you're right Rathore. Mujhe bhi wahin lagta hain. But I'm not sure if he's still alive," Arjun said and cut the call.

Purushottam Singh Bhati's mansion:

"Arey Sameer suna tha tum aaye ho. Baitho. Aap log bhi baithiye. Bataayiye kis kaam se aaye hain?" Purushottam greeted them in a rather pleasant manner.
"Aap jaante hi honge ki Hari singh ke bete ki khoon huyi hain, Aditya ke haathon. Usike baare mein poochne aaye the," Rathore said politely.
"Haan. Aaj hum haar gaye Sameer. Hamara hamesha yahin koshish raha hain ki yahaan shanti banaye rahe. Lekin aaj khoon kharaba shuru ho hi gaya. Aditya hain kahan? Hum abhi abhi Devilaal ke yahan se hi aa rahe hain," Purushottam said.
Riya and Arjun looked at each other. They hadn't expected that from him; he himself telling them that he went to Devilaal's place.
"Usse ye samjhake aaya hoon ki woh jaldbazi aur gusse mein kuch na kare. Kaanoon ko apne haathon mein na le," Purushottam continued, "Chauhan kaisa hain?"
"ICU main hain," Arjun answered instead of Rathore, "Suna hain ki Devilaal aapka khaas aadmi hain. Usse aap secretly milte hain."
Purushottam smirked and said, "Devilaal ko hum uske bachpan se jaante hain. Hamare door ke rishtedaar hain. Usse iss gaun mein humne hi laya tha, tees saal pehle jab uske Bhabasa aur Bhabo guzar gaye. Tab se yahin reh raha hain. Ye baat koi bhi janta hain. Aur rahi baat chori chupe milne ki, humein kisi bhi baat chupane ki koi zaroorat nahin hain. Agar chupana tha tho hum khud aapko woh baat kyun bataayenge? Kuch aur poochna hain?"
"Aapne Aditya ko Hari Singh ke yahaan jaane se kyun nahin roka? Kam se kam uske saath kyun nahin the. Itne saalon se inn parivaaron ko jante hain. Tho aapko nahin laga ki shayad koi jhagda ho sakta hain?" Arjun was asking straight forward questions.
"Nahin. Asal mein Aditya agle din subah milne waala tha Ananth, humara matlab Hari Singh ke bete se. Lekin pata nahin kya hogaya woh humein bina bataye hi, adhi raat ko usse milne chala gaya aur ye sab kuch ho gaya."
Rathore was a little surprised but didn't say anything.
Arjun was about to ask something else when Rathore suddenly got up from his place.
"Hamein chalna chahiye. Daddaji aap apna khyaal rakhiye. Agar aapki madad ki zaroorat padi tho hum phirse aayenge," Rathore said signaled his team to come out along with him.
Arjun nodded. He understood Rathore had figured something out.
They came out of the house and Inspector Rathi was waiting for them, "Sir, uss taxi driver ko kisine gaun ke bahar Kali ma ke mandir mein jaate huye dekha hain. Abhi abhi khabar mili hain."
"Kitna door hain woh mandir yahan se?" Arjun asked Rathore.
"Yahin koi chalees minute. Hamein wahan jaldi pahuchna hoga," Rathore said and turned towards the inspector, "Aapke officers koi hain wahan?"
"Nahin sir. Hamare do constables ne usse dekha tha. Woh log usse doondhne ki koshish tho kar rahe hain'"
"Theek hain. Lets go team," Rathore said and the ETF team got into the police SUV.

In the SUV:

Rathore and Arjun were sitting in the front while the others were sitting in the back.
"Kya hua Rathore, tumne mujhe roka kyun?" Arjun asked him.
"Purushottam Singh Bhati jhoot bol raha hain," Rathore said with a firm expression on his face, "Uss raat ko Ananth aur Aditya ne tair kiya tha ki woh log Hari Singh ke out house mein hi milenge, akele. Lekin Ananth apne saath apne driver ko legaya. Ye baat Aditya ko bhi pata nahin tha. Jaate waqt gaadi mein Ananth ne Purushottamji se baat kiya tha. Unhe bataya ki woh Aditya se milne akele hi ja raha hain aur apne driver ke baare mein kuch nahin kahan. Woh driver iss baat ka gava hain. Iska matlab woh jaante the ki Aditya aur Ananth milne waale the. Ananth ne apne driver ko out house se thode door gaadi ko rokne ke liye kahan. Usse ye bhi kahan ki agar woh ek ghante mein bahar nahin aaya tho uske pitaji ko call karke bata dena. Jab Ananth ek ghante ke baad bhi bahar nahin aaya tab woh driver pehle andar gaya ye dekhne ke liye ki wahan ho kya raha tha. Usne Ananth ke ghar waalon ko phone bhi kar diya tha. Usne andar jaakar dekha ki Ananth mara pada tha aur Aditya kahin nahin tha."

Now their prime suspect was Purushottam Singh Bhati. However, they didn't have any solid proof against him. Just then Rathore got a call.
"Hello. Avantika?"
"Sameer main abhi Kali maa ke mandir ke piche waale cellar ke paas hoon. Saare paarivaar ke saath aayi hoon. Meri baat dhyan se suniye. Yahan main ne kal raat ke taxi driver ko dekha hain. Pata nahin kiske saath hain. Lekin usse uss aadmi ne ek laal bag diya. Unke beech shayad kuch jhagda hua hain. Uss driver ko woh gaadi mein bitha raha hain," she said in a very low voice.
"Kya? Avantika tum mujhe uss gaadi ki number bata sakti ho? Kuch dikh raha hain? Aur tum wahan akeli uska peecha kyun kar rahi ho? Pagal ho gayi ho kya?"
"Aap meri fikar mat kijiye. Mujhe kuch aur soojha nahin. Aapne subah kahan ki aap log subah doondh rahe hain tho'"
"Theek hain jaldi number batao. Hum aa rahe hain wahan.."
"Likhiye.. RJ-01 CA 33'AAAH!!!"
Somebody hit Avantika on her head with a rod and she fainted.
"Avantika! Avantika, tum theek ho'" Rathore called out for her, but in vain. The line went dead.
"Damn it! Avantika khatre mein hain! Usne uss driver ko kisike saath jaate huye dekha. Gadi ka number aadha pata chala hain.. Shree find out, RJ-01 CA 33, uske baad do aur numbers hone chahiye.." Rathore said, he was so worried for Avantika.
"Sir, lekin aakhri chaar numbers hi tho important hain sir. Unke bina hum iss gaadi ke baare me pata nahin kar sakte.." Shree said.
Both Arjun and Rathore frowned in worry. Now, there was another life at risk.
Arjun turned towards Rathore. He wouldn't let anything happen to Avantika. He wouldn't let Rathore lose her like he lost Roshni. No matter what happens, he would save her.
"Main tumhe nahin kho sakta hoon Avantika! I can't! Main tumhe zaroor bachaunga," Rathore was determined to save the love of his life.
