Yes, school shootings are pretty common and tragic in the U.S. I was part of the volunteer task force in my daughter’s school on how to react, protect students, minimize risk and deal with parents in case of a school shooting incident. Areas were to be cordoned off, there was a separate area assigned for parents to reunite with children after, etc. So showing Anupama and Shrew running up the stairs would have been impossible in a real life school shooting situation. The barricades wouldn’t allow anyone except cops to intercept.

Thats really sad that parents and children have to go through these drills. Even this must be traumatic to kids, let alone being in an active shooting.

It is traumatic at least for a parent, kids may not understand the seriousness. The kids go thru these lock down drills, where they pile desks and chairs against their classroom doors to barricade against the shooter. They are taught to hide under desks and seek safe points. The teachers are given different colored plastic encased labels to denote safe, injured or dead kids in the classroom. When the cops make a sweep after, if they see a green sign, they don’t need to waste time checking that classroom. It is stressful for the teachers too, I am sure. The plan also outlines what to do if there is a death - they would have make shift tents for the injured and a tent to place the dead out of sight of other students. It was a plan only but even to think of different contingencies, to work with local sheriffs, etc, puts the fear of God in you as a parent. The schools in CA where we live are all locked during session, so no one can enter or exit the school without being monitored.

The sandy hook elementary school shooting in connecticut is still fresh in mind as close known person was there.

What i think is US should ban guns sales, no one should buy guns. Why do they need protection and that too guns? Asia and Africa is much more dangerous for commoners yet govts never allow guns for all. Especially woman its very unsafe to go on roads after 7pm in india in most places yet goovt not allowed gun for every woman to defend themselves.

USA is way more safer in no one will just gang rape you while walking on roads atleast in washington capital city unlike Delhi. Delhi is really menace for women with men following in cars and bikes after 7pm if you go out alone. Not that other city is safe recent Hyderabad gang rape showed even south highly unsafe. Even bangalore recently auto guy took girl who hired his auto and raped her in lonely place. US is not so unsafe as a Delhi etc so why all holding guns? once upon a time hyderabad, bangalore, mumbai were safest city hardly any one got raped even waking out alone at midnight. But in recent years south citys have become danger too for woman after 7pm. Thanks to over crowding of city and ppl have no idea who is who fear of law is very less now than early 2000s in these cities. Even safest mumbai, bangalore, hyerabad, chennai where you could go out at midnight alone catching auto a girl and be very safe are no longer safe in last 10-15 years.

Imagine in india if everyone could buy guns and hold them mayhem would happen - because discrimination and bias is much more in india than USA so all will go around removing anger on boss, colleagues, signals, wife, in laws etc Even mental illness is taboo in india so ppl who are mentally unstable never seek medical help such ppl holding guns like USA will be disaster

Further women will be at great danger if gun allowed to all in india you see, because anyone can show gun scare woman and rape her. Nirbhaya kind of incidents will boom if all get guns in india.

So luckily only USA has done foolish work by allowing guns for all by amendments in parliament, other countries have avoided US mass shooting menace by banning guns for everyone

These young men below 40 in USA start shooting guns for simple family fights. Once i had witnessed fight between family outside a hospital and 2 or 3 family and friends i think removed guns after argument. Now we have fights between family and friends in india too who hell removes guns and weapons if you have fight with family or friends. Its very scary stuff. Luckily india and asia has banned guns otherwise imagine for family fights etc toxic masculinity would be on display in simple fights.

USA should serious ban guns and stop saying amendment. Those rules were made in diff era civil war era not for modern 2020s.

USA should serious ban guns and stop saying amendment. Those rules were made in diff era civil war era not for modern 2020s.

The issue of gun sales and gun ownership in the U.S. is highly debated and extremely political. NRA is against any sort of gun control, the second amendment of the constitution gives Americans the right to bear arms. Even though there is a caveat that felons and the mentally ill cannot bear arms, there was little to no checks being done on people buying guns. There is a law now (2023) that background checks need to be done before guns can be sold.Twelve of the 50 states have imposed some sort of waiting period (CA requires 10 days) in the hopes that anyone angry or incensed will have time to cool off before barging into a gun store. There are instances of kids taking guns to school that their gun owning parents have not safely put away and shooting classmates. There is a movement gaining momentum that even cops should not be armed as the number of cops killing unnecessarily has increased, hasn’t come to fruition but cops are required to wear body cams, which at least records their actions.

You are right, people buy and carry guns for the slightest of reasons here. We were at a wedding in May in Texas and this Indian guy, 31 years old with kids under 6 years of age was fully drunk at the Sangeet and was toting a gun in plain sight in his back pocket. He was so drunk that he got belligerent and the guests near him were whispering to stay away from him cos of his gun.

Yes, can imagine the ruckus it would cause in India if gun sales were allowed as freely as in the U.S. Did not know that it is that dangerous for a girl/woman to walk there on the streets after 7 p.m. That is a shame. Why is there an increase in rape and assault against women? Can anything be done to bring that down? Swifter, more severe punishments?
