@bold: I am sorry but that is gross generalization of a culture. This assumes that the issue is isolated to one region and not present anywhere else which in itself is incorrect.

This is where the problem lies, when one cannot acknowledge a problem to solve it.

The fact that incidents are reported is a testimony of the fact that the issue is recognised.

In other places law is atleast implemented and woman can approach court and police

in asia police and law are not friendly about girl or kids issues

They will say compromise its family or relatives etc if woman go to give complaint

also in asia if woman is abused no one marries her or all blame her only for rape etc

its patriarchal society where men have dominance and upper hand over woman

family relatives neighbours friends are biggest abusers usually known people only target mostly thats why 99% cases go unreported as per below report

usually when home is decoarte kids opinion comes first in any home

they never asked sara and anik atleast sara and mukku their only girl kids at home (daughters usually have a say in decoration more than any bhabhi mother or grand mom)

true they way he was talking was bad

no one speak to relatives so rudely even if they are wrong

all of us have dominating chachi bhabhi mami no one will speak like that to an elder

her husband or mother in law may tell her off but not a devar like this

anuj kapadia has started acting crude like anupama and shahs

before he never used to talk like this to even baa and kavya or vanraj or toshu etc (may be to please anupama he was talking so nice to them always although they were rude to gk, mukku, him)

ideally ankush should speak or even a mukku since anuj has no mother, mukku can speak in a nice way

but anuj or any others talking to her warning her like a goon on streets does not look good

So, you are saying none of this happens anywhere else in the world? Really? Must say, News from the East does cover the global news blocks.

By the way, there are way too many topics here, so let's break it down:

1. Reportage of incidents and quality of life of women in the society:

You are able to quote articles, instances etc. because someone has reported it and not normalised it.

While at it, can we please find the percentage of teenage parents, random campus shootouts etc. across the globe?

2. Patriarchy in society:

Talking of patriarchy, can we please name one Non-patriarchal society in the globe?

Talking of women rights, you are stating about societies where women did not even have voting rights till about a few decades ago.

Imagine what would have been and what can be stated in other issues, classic example: please compare the pregnancy and abortion laws.

Things like this never even required a point of discussion in our context where it was a given that men and women are equal partners.

3. Changes in society:

Tell me one thing, do you really think that any culture would normalise abuse against one gender? If our society has become what it is, it is because of people in the society that have moulded it to their convenience and vested interests. The culture is not to be blamed for it, it is people who should be blamed for systematically degenerated it and normalised things and people to be blamed to bring about a positive change as well.

Add to this, Implementation of any change is going to be difficult with a population this big and spread across a vast geography.

4. Representation of culture on Television:

Talking of Baa, Anupama and what is shown on Television in the name of culture is a systematic degeneration of it by creating unacceptable stereotypes and (most of the times, baseless) generalizations. Do you think they are the sole custodians of culture and representative of say you and I?

a. So, you believe, Anupama would stay in Shah house after marriage? That is a representation of our culture or reforms there in?

b. Do you believe Anuj would ever be able to forgive and spare Vanraj for having manipulated with his baby sister?

c. Do Shah Jr's represent children in our society?

Isolated instances cannot be mainstream.
