There is something beautiful about such innocent love. I mean Anu ke saath kite flying to thik hai...but relishing the thought that she is flying the kite given by him...kite having there names as one.

Honestly, I was worried kahi koi uski kite cut na kar leta.. thank you tune aisa hone nahi diya....surati manja, I know, kite se jyada manja are in demand and I have seen those cuts on people's hand. It's so Anuj, to be thoughtful and ensuring Anu or her brother don't get hurt...

And so thoughtful of him to give one packet for Devika too, he does take good care of his friends too. Or shall I say good care of Anu's friend.

At times, when I read I feel bad for Anuj's mom, she never got to be with her DIL.

Tune bhi married vibes de hi di hai. As in Anuj giving his wallet, tie wallet etc to her...Aur ab as couple they will take blessings too...

Anuj couldn't believe his ears.

"Tum.. chalogi? Modhera?"

"Ha! Main chalungi!"

"Sure? I mean.. you don't have to, Anu. Main toh isiliye ja raha hoon kyunki meri memories attached hai us mandir se."

"Ha, toh main bhi.. matlab Uttarayan pe darsan karne ke liye ja rahi hoon."

While Anuj still seemed unsure, GK was overjoyed.

"Areh, yeh hui na baat! Mujhe tujhse aisi hi ummeed thi, Anu beta!"

"Ek minute, GK! Relax! Anu, are you very sure about this? Humlog subha 7.30 baje nikal jayenge aur wapis aate aate 1.30 baj jayenge. Toh.. khane ka.. kaise manage karogi tum?"

"Ha, ekdum sure! Main kal ghar se kaam kar rahi hoon toh khane ki taiyariyan kar lungi. Aur aadha kam Nandini aur Kinjal karne wale hain. Aap jara bhi chinta mat kariye!"

The door bell rang before Anuj could say anything further.

"Is time pe kaun aaya hoga?"

"Samar hoga.."

Samar greeted Anuj and GK.

"Sorry mummy! Actually aaj academy me kaam bahot tha. Kal Uttarayan ka event hai. Phir teen dino ki chhutti aa rahi hai isiliye market jane me der ho gayi."

"Kaso vaando nahi! Aavto reh../ Koi baat nahi! Aa ja.."

She led him to the kitchen where he kept the grocery bags.

"Sun ne Samar.. Ponkh aur tuver dekh kar laya hai ne, beta?"

"Ha mummy. Bilkul! Aur baki saaman bhi jaisa bataya tha waise hi le aaya."

She patted his cheek.

"Thank you bakuda! Aur sori! Tujhe aise.. achanak se saam ko daudaya.."

"It's okay, mummy!" he hugged her.

"Ab tu ghar ja. Kal Sweety ka burger day hai par use kehna ki maine burger aaj hi bana diya! Kal Uttarayan ki taiyari me time nahi milega."

"Ha. Toh kya ho gaya! Woh kal tiffin me le jayegi. Aap de dijiye.."

He noticed a sweet smile on her lips as she packed the tiffin.

"Kya baat hai mummy?! Aap bahot khush lag rahi hai?"

She told him about the Modhera trip.

"Wow! Woh mandir kitna sundar hai! Jab aap wahan ja hi rahi hai toh ek dance video bhi bana lijiyega. Ya kuch photos click kar lijiyega. Hum use dance academy me use karenge!"

"Nahi Samar. Wahan bheed hogi. Mujhe toh naye phone me yeh sab photo vagere.."

"Anuj honge na aapke saath. Woh click kar denge!"

"Rehva de ne!"

"Itna awkward feel karne ki kya baat hai?Main unse baat karta hoon!"

She tried to dissuade him but to no avail.

"Anuj.. Aaplog jab Sun temple jayenge toh kya aap mummy ki kuch pics click kar denge? Aur.. possible hua toh video bhi?"

"Yes. Of course buddy!"

"Thank you so much! Humari dance academy ke online promotions me kaam aayega!"

"No worries! Uttarayan ka tera kya plan hai?"

"Main toh har bar ki tarah ghar pe hi celebrate karunga. Par aapke liye toh special hogi na?"

Anuj's gaze went to Anupama, who was also looking at him.

"Ha, special toh hai! Itne saalon baad main Uttarayan Ahmedabad me manaunga."

"Waise hum couple challenge karne wale hain! Jo couple sabse zyada patang katega woh jeetega! Usme aap aur.. GK kaka participate zaroor karna!"

"Areh mujhse ab patang kahan udayi jayegi, man! Anuj toh Anu ke saath couple challenge karega."

"Phir toh aaplog hi jeetenge kyunki mummy ko patangbazi me koi nahi hara sakta!"

"Bas Samar! Tu ghar ja ne beta. Baa raah dekh rahi hongi."

"Tune dinner nahi kiya ho toh humare saath kar le." Anuj offered.

"Nahi, phir kabhi. Main chalta hoon. Uttarayan pe milte hain!"

"Alright kiddo. Bye."

"Bye. Mummy, kal koi help chahiye ho toh Nandu ko bata dena. Bye.Aav jo!"

"Ha. Aav je! Bike dhyan se chalana."

When Anupama returned to the kitchen she found Anuj waiting there.

"Aapka chocolate milk deti hoon ha.."

"Hmm. Anu.. Mukku ne kaha hai ki woh aaj thodi der se video call karegi. 11.30 ya 12 baje tak. Toh main.."

"Toh aap us se kal baat kar lena! Main waise bhi jagne wali hoon toh main baat kar lungi. Aap thak gaye hain toh khane khake so jaiye."

"Tum.. kyun der tak jagne wali ho?"

"Mukku tehvaar par yahan nahi hogi par use aisa nahi lagna chahiye ki woh apne parivar se door hai! Isiliye uske liye thoda nasta aur chikki banakar kal courier karva dungi."

"Main bhi tumhare saath.."

"Jara bhi nahi! Aap aaj der se aaye hain. Kal Baroda ja rahe hain toh phir der se aayenge. Jitna time ghar pe mil raha hai usme aap aaram karenge! Khabar padi/understood?"

"Ha, padi!" 👍

She proceeded to serve dinner.

"Phataphat kapde badalkar aa jaiye. Kaka bhi aate hi honge. Aaj toh unke liye khaas khichdo banaya hai!"

"GK ke liye khichdo, Mukku ke liye itna kuch aur mere liye sirf instructions?"

She turned around to find him pouting like a baby.

"Aapke liye pesal/special chocolate chikki banaungi, raat ko! Kal khana!"

The smile that had barely formed on his lips disappeared.

He placed the empty glass on the counter and quietly walked out of the kitchen.

"Sori Anuj! Abhi aapko nahi bata sakti ki aapke liye kya banane wali hoon. Parso pata chalega!"

The following day passed by rather quickly.

Anupama was on her toes throughout the day.

Anuj felt sad as he was too preoccupied with work to help her.

He sat her down after dinner.

"Anuj, khana toh apne paros diya. Ab jo kam bacha hai main kar lungi."

"I'm so sorry Anu! Pure din toh kuch kar nahi paya, abhi karne do!"

"Sab ho hi gaya hai. Bas muthiya ki taiyari karni hai. Woh ho jayegi pehle aapke liye garam pani lekar aati hoon."

His brows came together "Garam pani kyun?"

"Aaj aapne 5 ghante tak gadi chalayi. Kal phir se 4-5 ghanton tak chalayenge. Garam pani me pair dalenge ne toh aapko aaram milega."

"Tum pure din kaam me lagi hui thi. Toh tumhare pairon me dard ho hi raha hoga.."

"Mujhe toh aadat hai!" she said casually.

"Aadat hone se dard kam ho jata hai kya?"

His words tugged at her heart.

"Baitho. Main pani aur methi dono lekar aata hoon!"

They sat next to each other and rekindled childhood memories associated with the festival.

"Ma bachpan me chulhe pe umbadiyu banati thi. Bhaves aur mujhe bohot pasand tha!"

"Woh hi jo matke me banta hai?"

"Ha, woh hi! Koyle ki wajah se uska swad ubharke aata hai,ha!"

"Ha, maine khaya hua hai! Mere mama mami Surat me rehte the. Toh humare liye Uttarayan ki sari cheezein woh hi late the. Hum Surti manjha Mukku se chhupa kar rakhte the."

"Mukku ko patang udane ka sauq hai?"

"Nahi, usko sirf katne ka shauq hai! Patang use main udakar deta tha. Phir madam dusron ki patange kat kar sara credit khud kha jati thi!"

"Bhaves ko toh kaan pakadkar chhat se utarna padhta tha! Andhera hone ke bad bhi use neeche nahi aana hota tha!"

"Humare ghar me toh 14-15 ko teeno time ka khana hum chhat par hi khate the! (sighs) Baaton baaton me methi toh kaat di. Aur batao?"

"So jaiye. Muthiya talkar main bhi sone hi ja rahi hoon."

"Pakka?"

"Haas toh!"

She thanked him before he left.

"Thank you kis liye?"

"Meri itni phikar karne ke liye!"

"Tum bhi toh fiqar karti ho.. Mukku ki, GK ki, meri toh bohot zyada!"

"Ha, toh! Dost.. agar dusre dost ki.. phikar nahi karega toh.. kaun karega!"

"So toh hai!"

"Chaalo tyare, goodnight!"

"Goodnight!" He left her with a sweet smile.

Anuj woke up at 5 the next morning.

He could see a very faint orange light from beneath the closed door.

He realized the source of the light was the night lamp in Mukku's bedroom.

"Lagta hai Anu so rahi hai. Main bekar me hi help karne ke liye uth gaya" he said to himself.

He was about to lie down when he heard the sound of a steel vessel from her room.

He contemplated for a moment or two before

he heard that sound again.

She was definitely up to something!

"Itne andhere me, bedroom me baithkar kya bana rahi hai?"

Inquisitivity got the better of him. He quietly went towards Mukku's bedroom.

The door was ajar and he hesitated to knock.

"Annuu.." he called in a faint voice from outside.

"Annuujj! Aap itni jaldi uth gaye?!"

Again the same sound could be heard, albeit louder.

"Ha. Andar.. aa.. sakta hoon?"

"a.. ha.. aaiye" she spoke tentatively.

"Aa badhu su chhe/yeh sab kya hai?!"

He was flummoxed to see her seated on the bed amidst vegetables, a large steel dabba, a wooden spatula, a steel kadhai and ziplock bags.

"Ssshh! Dheeme nahi tar kaka ni ungh tuti jase/Dheere boliye varna kaka ki neend toot jayegi!"

"Sorry!" he whispered while closing the door.

She shifted certain things to make space for him on the bed.

"Yeh.. aise andhere me kya kar rahi ho tum? Kitchen me kyun nahi gayi?"

"Kaka ka kamra kitchen ke samne hi hai ne toh unki neend toot jati. Isiliye yahin baith gayi. Raat ke khane ke liye matar chheele. Misran toh kal raat ko hi taiyyar rakha tha. Us se gundad laadu/gond ke laddoo banane ke liye jyada light ki jaroorat nahi hai!"

"Baad me kar leti toh kya jata?"

"Baad me undhiyu banana hai aur Modhera bhi toh jana hai!"

"Kab se uthi hui ho, Anu? Tum soyi bhi thi ya nahi?"

"12 baje tak so gayi thi. Abhi.. thodi der pehle hi uthi."

"Uttarayan ke liye waise bhi itna kuch bana hi rahi ho phir gundad laadu banane ki kya zuroorat thi? Bekar me apna kaam badhaya!"

"Is saal thand jyada padhi hai. Kaka do din se keh rahe the ki unki haddiyon me dard ho raha hai. Isiliye bana rahi hoon."

"That's very sweet of you! Par tum aise raat beraat jagogi toh beemar padh jaogi!"

"Uttarayan ke bad nahi jagungi, bas? Aap jakar so jaiye. Main 6 baje jaga dungi."

She was about to make another laddoo when Anuj caught her hands.

"Areh, haath me ghee aur misran laga hai!"

He did not budge.

"Annuujj.."

"Bol doon?"

"Kya?!" Her voice revealed her astoundment.

"Bol doon?" he asked again.

"hmmm.. Bol dijiye.."

Her heart leaped as he locked his fingers with hers.

"Yeh kaisi adaa hai teri

Jo chehre se dil ka haal bayaan karti hai?

Yeh kaisi wafaa hai teri

Jo meelon ki doori ko pal me tabaah karti hai?

Yeh kaisi fiqar hai teri

Jo befiqron ki bhi parvah karti hai?

Jo anjaano par bhi itna marti hai?"

Jaanta hoon woh anjaan nahi hain,

Par unse toh mera naata hai,

Phir un par jaan chhidakne ka khayaal

Tere zehen me kyun aata hai?

Yeh kaisi khamoshi hai teri

Jo bebaaq boli se bhi toot-ti nahi?

Yeh fiqar hai ya muhabbat hai teri

Jo laakh chhupaane par bhi chhupti nahi?!"

Anupama didn't know where to look as she felt his burning gaze on her.

"Annu.. Tumhare dimag me koi idea bhi aata hai na toh mujhe tumhara chehra dekhkar pata chal jata hai! Tumhe sach me laga ki itni badi baat mujhe pata nahi chalegi?!"

Words refused to come out of her mouth.

"Kyun nahi bataya?"

"Woh.. mujhe.. aap.. Mukku.." she spoke incoherently while refusing to meet his eyes.

He leaned closer to her.

"Tum itni achchhi ho isiliye main tumse itna zyada prabhaavit hoon!"

He kissed her cheek which changed hues from red to crimson.

"Annuujj.. Mujhe pata bhi nahi chala kab.. mujhe aapse.. prem ho gaya! Koi ek aisi baat ya.. koi ek visesta/quality nahi bata sakti.. kyunki.. Main aapki hasi se.. lekar aapke swabhav, aapke vichar.. aapki sayari.. aapki aadaton se.. aapki har cheej se.. prem karti hoon! Jo sayari aapne.. mere liye abhi kahi ne woh hi main aapke liye bhi keh sakti hoon!"

"Aur yeh sab tum mujhe kab batane wali thi Anu?"

"Jab.. Mukku theek.. ho jati tab. Par Devika ne.. kaha ki.. der nahi karni.. chahiye toh.. main aaj hi.. batane wali thi! Aur.."

She checked herself lest she revealed her surprise.

"Koi baat nahi! Devika ko abhi kuch mat batana. Hamesha humein darati hai na, aaj hum use darayenge!"

Even though she smiled her eyes were focused on their entwined fingers.

"Mukku aur GK ko main bata dunga. Joshis aur Shahs ko tum bata dena!"

Finally she lifted her eyelids and stared at him in shock.

"Main kaise bataungi?"

"Toh hum dono milkar bata denge, lekin batayenge aaj subha hi!"

"Subha mandir nahi jana hai?"

"Seedha hisab hai Anu! Subha jayenge toh 6 ghante hi milenge saath me. Is se achchha lunch ke bad chalte hain. Mandir toh sham tak khula rehta hai. Dopeher ko jayenge toh sham aur raat bhi.. apne hisab se jahan ghoomna ho ghoom kar aa jayenge! Koi jaldi nahi hogi!"

Her heart leapt yet again in anticipation.

"Theek chhe. Dopeher ko chale jayenge. Par kaka..?"

"Unhe jab pata chalega tab woh khud hi aane se mana kar denge. Waise ab koi jaldi nahi hai toh tum thodi der so jao. Phir shanti se laadu, undhiyu aur jo bhi banana hai woh hum milkar bana denge."

"Ab mujhe neend nahi aayegi. Aur bhi kaam baki hai."

"Aur kya karna hai?"

"Aap baithiye. Main aakar batati hoon. Peechhe mat aana!"

He laughed "Nahi aaunga lekin tum sambhal kar jao. Mobile ki flash light jala lo."

He smiled to himself.

Uttarayan was turning out to be really special. And it was only the start of the day!
