(sorry if it's too long, im bad at editing)
I'm new here and yeah this is the first Indian show that I've watched along with my mom. I appreciate the this show a lot for it's mature and progressive ideas. But here's a kicker, they will never let women take legal action against her in laws and husband unless the serial is about a women being literally doused for dowry. If you're a female lead, better turn the other cheek and just leave nah. All these baby steps don't matter when you can't fight the rotten core. Laws have helped us eradicate shitty traditions and empower women. But these shows want fl to shy away from legal action to protect their inlaws image. To protect the institution of marriage and family from getting broken up. They don't explicitly say it but do imply that a women should be defensive rather than fight her abusive in-laws legally and directly. Don't take charge and don't blame them, just separate yourself nah.
I don't like Kavya too. She's a cheater and has internalised misogyny. But she was so true today. Wasn't the show about empowering Anupama? But i see her getting her "freedom " at the cost of her self respect. She's out of the house, she has to pay for it by getting berated from Baa n Ravanraj. She's getting her freedom nah, so she should side with and protect the Shah image in exchange. They're so great for letting her go and those 25 years of emotional stress and physical degradation is just a silly mistake and that good women should take that.
Framing Kavya as the villain isn't good at all. Ravanraj wanted a *ex doll and a bang maid , that's that. He was the actual villain objectively. Involving government when your rights are threatened isn't bad. Laws are made for that purpose and will help society progress. If you're progressive, your show shouldn't shy away from rocking the status quo of this institution called family and marriage. They indirectly implied that Kavya was a villain for throwing legal suit on Ravan and Anupama is a good progressive example for getting herself out of the situation (without alimony btw) and protecting her family's image. Is Kavya entitled to compensation is another debate but showing her do this as form of revenge while the show's mouthpiece and protagonist frames it as bad thing doesn't really empower women. It still says that at the end of the day, your value is lesser than that of your husband and in-laws. It's like those sexual harassment cases where judges say that the victim should think about the career of the harasser and not be too harsh. Women should be selfish and not just be a giver.
