I remember in Challenge 2005 (SRGMP) when Hemachandra was out because his zone (south) didn't give him enough votes. I think from that experience, Gajendra Singh may have taken out South as one of the choices, seeing that they have their own film industry, and are more inclined to South Indian music...

I agree with u on this.Gajendra singh might've felt that the viewership in south is low for programs in Hindi.And i dare say,he is right.I think most of the south Indians in this forum who r so passionate abt antakshari(and that includes me) have stayed in the north at some point of time.Having stayed in madras for quite a few years,i have noticed that the average south Indian doesn't understand or follow hindi programs.Even KBC is dubbed in tamil and shown in Madras.... the original version is seen by very few ppl.

Secondly some southern cities have this concept of set top box for cable TV.For those who are not aware of wht this means,set top box is a system wherby a certain minimum amt is paid for some basic free to air cable channels.If the viewer wants to watch any other channels he shld pay xtra for them and also buy a set top box costing a few thousand rupees..This system was first implemented in chennai and a few cities in south and is still in operation only in these cities.No other city in any other part of India follows it.Channels like zee,star plus,star one etc are not included in the free to air channels.So ppl have little incentive to pay extra and watch these channels since all the regional language channels come into the free to air category.This sems to be a move designed to alienate south indians from Hindi channels(sahara one is the only free to air hindi channel!!)

so naturally,ppl don't watch these shows and wldn't even be aware of auditions voting etc.maybe thereally interested few wld watch their fav shows on the net.Basically i think this is the reason he doesn't have a south zone.

having said this i still wish he had at least given auditions in the south a try before rejecting the idea.He cld have tried in bangalore(most cosmiploitan place) or hyderabad(maximum hindi speaking ppl in the south)...... and sorry rachna this post of mine is in no way related to the main DOTW. I have totally digressed the issue 😆
