Getting into the auto and going to school like as though she doesn't need anybody's asssitance....except her stupid periyamma. She shd be ignored and made to feel less important...hopefully the truth when it falls out of Abhirami's mouth is going to change this girl's attitude for the better.....
I cannot let this comment about parenting methods pass. Though I am not a parent, I participated in the raising of my nephew, an only child, for 8 years from the time he was born as his divorced mother was busy making a living.
True, taking an auto and going to school by herself is a bit too much but the underlying problem is not something that can be addressed simply by wielding the cane. Whether we like the plot or not, it is highly credible that children of a tender and impressionable age will occasionally be faced with traumatic situations -- such as being told that the man parading as your stepfather was the one who killed your father. Caning the child for its resultant rudeness to its mother or others will only worsen the situation and alienate it further from society. The psychological scar from caning in such circumstances will remain with the child for the rest of its life.
Btw, Shanthi did slap Indu in one instance, the one where Karthik tried to intervene.
On a separate issue, I thought there were some interesting issues raised in Friday's episode -- the one we saw in Singapore, viz, RK pontificating on the difference between faith in God and irrational beliefs. This was when Shanthi's aunt had suggested that mother and child undertake fire-walking. Cheyar had a useful social message to convey, I felt.
