Harshit Saxena from Lucknow has made it to the finals of Voice of India which will be taking place in Mumbai next week. He chats with us about his preparations, future plans and singing in front of Lata Mangeshkar.
About the finals
"It feels great to have reached here as I have really worked very hard for the last 8 months. It is like a dream come true for both me and Ishmeet. Whoever wins the competition, for me both of us are winners. There were some excellent singers with us, so reaching the finals is something very big."
Preparations
"I am not nervous at all. My only aim is to perform well and impress everyone. There are many expectations from me, so obviously that pressure is there. There are only a few days to go for the finals so I have doubled my riyaz timing. I want to leave my impact on the audience's mind. My mentors are also supporting me a lot."
Singing in front of Lata Mangeshkar
"This is biggest tension I guess that we will be giving our last performance in front of Lataji as she is going to judge us in the finals. We respect her a lot and she is like Goddess Saraswati for us. It's our privilege that she is coming for the finals. Meeting her is like a victory in itself and I am really very excited about it. It will definitely create history as this will be the first time that Lataji is coming in any reality show."
I want to thank…
"First of all I would like to give credit for my success to mummy and papa because they supported and encouraged me a lot. When I was called for the audition I was supposed to appear for my physiotherapy semester exams. The date of the exam and the audition was clashing and I was totally confused. But my papa said 'we will see whatever happens. It is important to take a risk in life. You go for the audition'. So I took that huge risk and thankfully got selected. God has been very kind to me."
Future plans
"The struggle in life will continue whether I win or lose the show. I have got an opportunity to sing for Mukesh Bhatt in his film. Apart from that many people have approached to me. Jatinji and Lalitji have promised me a few songs in their movies. However, I will be able to concentrate on that only after this final. In this field you have to struggle a lot and that is a fact but this show has given me an identity. The future depends on my hardwork and I will try to prove myself with whatever offers I have received. Simultaneously, I will be continuing with my physiotherapy studies."
Harshit's grandmother is visually challenged and recognizes Harshit with his voice. So far Harshit has been in danger zone many times but survived courtesy public votes. On Saturday, November 24th the winner will be crowned.
