Reflections and Analysis, August 31, 2007

I had not heard many of the songs in yesterday's episode before this, so my comments will be based on what people sounded like without a reference point for the most part.

Abhaas is catching that infection that is doing the rounds. Why would the ASVOI unit not ensure that people get preventive care as well? What I did like was that he heard himself and cut his own performance short. B-

Priyani is back to her grating voice. She sounded fine in Bichhooa but yesterday again she was very hard to listen to. I still don't hear what the judges hear in her voice. Sur seemed okay, she started before the beat a couple of times. B

Sumitra was very good. I will probably be her last supporter standing but I think that she has talent. She needs better guidance than the Agni mentors can provide and I am not sure how that is possible for her to get in this set-up. A

Abhilasha's song I had never heard, but she sang parts of it well and parts of it beautifully. As far as I could discern, it was a song with a very unusual kind of melody and therefore hard to sing. I think Kunal G was right yesterday; the Bombay-Pune girls are the ones to beat here! A

Toshi's performance was better than usual yesterday. As Alka said, there was a thehraav that is new to him. But it was also a very uneven performance because the good parts were amazing and the bad parts were appalling. That said, this is the best performance of this song I have heard in a competition. And I have mostly heard it only in competitions. B+

I keep wanting to give Ishmeet Boost or Horlicks when he sings. His sur and taal were fine but his energy level was distinctly lower than that of the orchestra. B+

It was not Harshit's day either and I wonder if the throat infection is now going to do the rounds with the boys. Sur, taal, energy were all a little lacklustre. B-

Irfan-in-a-hurry is back. B-

Mirande is still not well, I think. I am now concerned that we will forget her good performances in this run of mediocre ones. B

I need to wrap this up for now. I will come back to this thread to add my thoughts on other random matters such as Toshi's departure.

I too would like to hear her sing other songs, but the fact is that a large number of the themes are conducive to her singing the same type of song AND she has mentors that believe in stereotyping singers to genre, witness Arshpreet's plight. Jiya Jale was a taste of what could be, and so to some extent was Kaisi Paheli Zindagani.

**** I think she has loads of talent .... unfortunate that so mny
people dislike her ..... it was heartening to note she received the
highest number of votes this time.

I think as the show progresses, votes are going to be increasingly
divided on regional lines and the show would end up being totally
distateful.

I wonder who the oganizers would keep on from the West: the
Mumbai girl o Pune girl.

We have a show here and elimination is based on votes from public as well as judges.

Will Gajji realise his mistake and correct or just go ahead with bringing in eliminated contestants to enjoy another week's voting income..time only will tell.

Kunal and Sonu were very forthright in there comments.They take a stand and speak out whats in there mind.The way Adesh and Lalit make faces when prithvi singers sing and are never truthful with there comments.
I am so glad Kunal said that both Sumitra and Abhilasha were the best and Vanaja you also gave them A.Mirande is not able to come back to her original form.
Some contestant has to leave so what is this huge hungama
abt Thosi leaving? I rather listen to Abhas and Harshid.
I respect Vanajas analysis and she has consistantly giving A's to Abhas and Abhilasha in her ratings and though they are the youngest they are singing so well.Just because one or two episodes they have a bad day they shd not be sacrificed.
We have to cheer for the contestants rather than be a spectator and just watch.
Please vote for Abhilasha and Abhas.

Vanaja, you have never appreciated Toshi's talent FROM THE VERY BEGINNING. Your so-called expert analysis have never shed a light on this great talent and singing capacity, why in the world should we respect what you say about him that day he leaves??!!! And what KIND of "appalling" mistakes did HE MAKE? Huh? That you couldn't will yourself to acknowledge that he is a SUPERB singer!!! Every week there are remarks of yours how "irritating" he is or how unpolished he is, and then you support people like Abhilasha and Sumitra????!! That's disgusting. Your analysis is wasteful.
