My statement on Sonu Nigam misconstrued: Pryani
Indore, Aug 25: Priyani Vani, one of the nine finalists of the Amul Star Voice of India contest says that her statement on playback singer Sonu Nigam was overplayed by the media and as such it was not a publicity stunt. Whatever, I told about Sonuji on the stage of VOI, was an expression of my childhood dream, said Priyani while talking to this newspaper here on Friday.I am a very diehard fan of Sonuji since my childhood days. I had a crush on him and even I told about the same to my mother that I would marry Sonu Nigam but than it was all a childhood dream, Priyani said adding that when Sonu Nigam participated in the VOI show as a celebrity guest, her happiness knew no bound. I could not believe my eye seeing my childood idol sitting in front of me and whatever I confessed about him on the stage was an extempore expression, Priyani said adding that her statement was misconstrued in the media.
Does she nurture same feeling about Sonu Nigam today? Not that way, but I continue to adore him for he is a very gifted singer and has tremendous voice quality, Priyani said adding that she just wanted to an opportunity to be in his house so as to know how he practiced singing.
Priyani, who is doing her post graduation from SNDT college Mumbai, said since she had a very good academic record, her mother wanted her to become a professor of music but on the other hand my father wanted me to become an accomplished singer as he himself wanted to become a singer but because of some family reasons, he could not achieve his dream.
Talking about her misunderstanding with Alka Yagnik reported in the media sometime back, Priyani said it was a thing of the past. Now she supports me like anything and I too have a great respect for me as a playback singer and as a judge. Going down the memory land, she said that it was at Hotel Fortune Landmark from where she began her journey for the Star Voice of India contest. I still remember the sultry heat and the long queue of aspiring contestants including me who had gathered outside this hotel for the VOI contest and four months later, life has changed for me completely and I owe it to the Amul Star Voice of India show who gave me such a huge platform to showcase my talent, Priyani said wearing an emotional look.
Along with Priyani, the wonder child of Star VOI show Abhaas Joshi and 'sher of prithvi' team, the other two finalists of the VOI were also in the city in connection with the promotional campaign of the Amul Star Voice of India show. Abhash who always received huge applause for his singing talent from all the judges, said he got music in his legacy. Replying to a question, he said legendary playback singer Mohammad Rafi has been his idol since his childhood and whenever, he sings his songs, he feels his divine presence. Abhash said he also received an offer for playback singing from Mahesh Bhatt,. Irfan, a Hyderabadi lad and a software engineer said being a south Indian, he found his place among the nine finalists of the VOI and it is a great achievement for him.
