Every episode we see that the judges give comments for every singer saying this is what is needed for VOI.. I dont remember all the criteria mentioned.. So, what do you think a singer needs to be Voice of India??

According to me and analyzing from the judges comments - here is what i feel:

Good voice quality - Does the perspective of Voice quality differs from one to another? To me, one voice may appeal and for the other it may not.. So, can that be kept as the criteria for judging VOI?

Versatility - Yes, its definitely required.. Jatin mentioned that Arindhom is a versatile singer.. But for the 2 episodes he sang only fast beat numbers.. Well, he was not selected but still how much importance is given to versatility?

Consistency in performance???? - that can be judged only when it comes to Bemisaal 12

What else is required according to you?? We are searching for a voice, a voice that every one appreciates..

I feel after watching the show for the judges most important seems to be the following, then everything else
1. Connect with the song, be able to portray the emotion of the song
2. Sing in sur
3. Get the diction right as much as possible
4. Try to be original, but dont experiment

You can sing in a perfect sur and taal and the judges will come back and say "maza nahi aya", if #1 and #3 are not there, Versatality gets covered in #1 too.

I think Alkaji was very particular about the sur, others are too, but she is like picky(almost reminds me of sur-meter Daler 😉), which I expected in reverse

I think since it is "Voice" of India, they give emphasis on voice... Thats why they are dobtful about Vipul... But I see no criteria here... Its just personal favoritism... There is lots of confusion amongst the judges... I think they are basically looking for voice quality - Example being Harshid and Abhilasha...

Quality of voice definitely important.. And I think the tonal quality - whether thats good or not does not vary from person to person. we all agree that Harshid has a good tonal quality.. sbut some of us feel that irrespective of that, he lacks something.. while some others do not feel so.. so its the way of singing that may differ from person to person... voice cannot be the only criteria..

what is the use of a voice that will not have the other things right... So the voice of India does not mean just a great voice.. it has to be many other things... a lot of which Vineeth has mentioned in his post... If it was just the voice quality, we all know Sanchari would not have gone out... It has to be everything together... And today, with Mirande - they have added another important aspect to it as well.. performance...

Here, I think I would quote Javed'ji from the last II gala, that singer ko perform karna chahiye, performer ko gaana nahi chahiye... so, the focus still has to be singing.. in sur, taal, diction and with proper expressions, and needs to connect with all... very tough, yes.. but I think - the overall quality of contestants in this show is so good, that most of them will perform well in all these aspects...

ya, but i think all these things are supposed to go without saying - i mean if u r in a musical hunt, these things are taken for granted that the contestants wud have... like they wud obviously want a singer who has a good voice, sings in sur, diction, etc... but how often do they follow this - even if they do, it is not a consistent scale for all contestants...

Oh yes.... there is no pattern that exists today... Neither with judges selection, nor with audience voting... I sometimes get a feel that the votes also get manipulated to the favor of the production house.... the comments are orchestrated... and this happens in all the shows... we have seen that in all the shows.. and we the viewers only get disspointed when we have to see that actual talent is asked to go only because the channel was not making enough money from him/her!
