Scoring scale - is there a right one?

So here is another question for all of you? If 6 is low, what is 4 or 2? And if 4 and 2 are unthinkable, then why have a ten point scale?

[/Quote]

Thought provoking question - and I thought this demanded a topic on its own...

We have seen rating scales as 1 to 10 (this one and C'05), B-A-A+ (Lil Champs) and so one.. and we always seemed to have issues being either it being not scalable enough to differentiate like the later case.. or being underutilized for the range it offers (former case)

I personally think that the older format of scoing in SRGM was too good where we had the different rounds on the same day and their was a distribution on scores on each of those.. None of that exists today in this competitive world..

What would be the best scoring scale given today's constraints? Your views..

I would pick smaller clusters of contestants, more rounds and then, I think the plus' and minus' of any scale would work themselves out.

This used to be the old formula even upto the Dubai competition, do you remember? The smaller clusters, that is. The winners would then face off, until you had a very small number of finalists.

Smaller groups for sure... And perhaps a smaller scale too... Anyways, on a 10 point scale, one does not go beyond a 4.. so why waste a 10 point scale.. 5 point should be enough...

Another thing I think that's important to consider is whether the scale is absolute or relative.. Say, 2 out of 5.. would it mean that the person sang such that he/she deserved a 2 or is it that there were others better who got 3 and 4 and 5, and just to make that differentiation, this person was given a 2... I think the perspective makes all the difference!

I read that and was about to suggest two scales (like the two sets of points on EMET), one absolute and one relative, 5 and 5, adding up to ten. However, can one actually separate the absolute and relative? Unless one separates the person, that is, has two people grading, one on each scale.

Actually Reality show is just a business, shows have to give proper representation to region, have to keep some beautiful girls and and some handsome boys, some controversial contestants to get the votes. They want to target those viewers who vote not those viewers who discuss singing here in IF like us... 😉

I agree with you 😊 In almost every reality show, we have one such contestant who is controversial 😆 He has to be a "not so good" singer, but who has lots of x factor/style 😆

I agree with Jadoo here... We have seen this trend in most of the reality shows..... Keep contestants who cant sing well but have x, y, z factor so that this factor can be encashed 🤢 ... have proper representation from zones and countries so that patriotism can be encashed 🤢 ... have people from economically weaker background, so that sympathy can be encashed 🤢 ... And I also think that they intentionally keep some contestants in, whom junta does not like - so that they get voted out easily 😆

But all this has become predominant as finals these days go for audience voting! But, here we are talking of the judges scale...

I personally think that they should listen to all the singers of the day first and then give marks... Because, then the chance of a weaker singer getting higher marks than a stronger singer appearing later in the show is reduced....

Why not give the scores after listening to all the performances?

A 10 should be given to almost perfect, flawless performances that makes everyone go 'wow' 👏 and no one questioning the score. But some of the 10s given so far have been the center of all discussions and controversy.

The scoring scale will only be right if the judges don't play favorites and aren't biased. Is that possible? 😉

we have 5 judges..
-so cancel the lowest and highest score..
-take only 3..
-this will eliminate bias and also judges will be more careful about giving scores..
