Who damaged Gaurav Chopraa's car? This has turned into a whodunit after the actor's Ford Ikon was badly damaged during the recently held Indian Telly Awards at Chitrakut Grou-nds, Andheri.

Chopraa claims the valet who parked the car was responsible for the broken headlight and extensive dents on the bumper and side of the car, while the Indian Telly Awards folk feel his car was already damaged and Chopraa is unnecessarily blaming the valet.

No compensation

According to Chopraa, when he handed over the keys to the attendant, the car was not damaged.

"After the show was over late at night, I just drove off. Barely had I driven for a few minutes that there were some strange noises. I stopped the vehicle and that's when I realised that the headlight was damaged and there were dents on the bumper and the sides. As it was dark, I did not notice it when I got into the car after the ceremony," he says.

It is reliably learnt that Chopraa later complained to Anil Wanvari of the Indian Telly Awards and demanded monetary compensation.

Says a source, "Everyone was taken by surprise when he related the incident to Wanvari and asked for Rs 15,000 as compensation from him. As Wanvari had organised the valet service, he asked him to fork out the repair charges."

However Chopraa denies that he asked for any compensation. "I only told them what happened that night. I have already repaired the car and it costs me Rs 18,000 as the damages were extensive. I am sure the valet banged into another vehicle while parking my car."

Wanvari, on the other hand, does not want to be drawn into a controversy and prefers not to comment on the issue.

Embarassing drive

Chopraa adds that driving with a damaged car was a major source of embarrassment for him. "I had invited guests to the show and was taking them out for dinner after the event. I had to drive them around in the damaged car. The parents of my co-star, Kajal Bagwandeen, who featured in the musical Bombay Crush, had come down from South Africa, and I had invited them for the awards ceremony."

Incidentally, three months ago (as reported 'Hole in my screen', HiTLIST, September 18) miscreants allegedly damaged Chopraa's Ford Ikon while he was rehearsing for Nach Baliye 2 at Versova. He realised that the windscreen had a gaping hole after he had finished with his dance practice in the wee hours of the morning.

"It looks like this car is jinxed," says Chopraa who features in the soon to be off air Aisa Des Hai Mera on Sony and will also be seen in the Nach Baliye finale on Monday, which will have all the ousted contestants performing.

He says, "It's sad that Aisa Des is going off the air; there are so many viewers from across the globe who have started an e-mail campaign stating that it should not be pulled off. I only want to thank these people wherever and whoever they are for their support."

Oh God am so very sad for his car.Damn all those who'r after him .My poor baby ! but hey u guys he recognizes and appreciates our efforts for the petition.Am so happy today 😛 atleast he realizes our love for him is true n we all r sad at ADHM ending also........ 😕

he should register a complaint in police. this has been happening for the second time around. i hope its just by chance. but he better be careful.

yes i read b4 that his car's window was smashed into! he has enemies!

he looks cute in there.

I bet it was antique Ajit (pawan shankar) who did this to his car 😆

I think it's so adorable that he recognizes our effort. He actually mentioned
